Nobody has wanted to acknowledge this but since 2018 tuition in real US$ has been falling. Plus, available aid has been increasing.

Trump is ending that streak.

Cuts in research and foreign students are gouging budgets, putting the burden on US students.

Only weirdos read a book straight through. Samuel Johnson taught us that.

You know that post from a little while back that got people upset, about the person who doesn't read linearly? I often don't either. Like, I'll get to everything eventually, but I do skip around and I tend to read the ending either at the start or about 1/3 of the way through.

Happy Columbo’s Day
Screenshot from Columbo. He his talking to his dog, which is sitting is the drivers seat of a car. “Okay, I’m gonna put you in charge. You take care of the car. You’re a responsible dog. When I get back, if the car’s okay, I’ll give you another cookie.” “If the car’s gone,” “I’ll give you another cookie anyway” “because I love you.”

There are few things that make me happier than the fact that William James’ house looks like this at Halloween.

One exam question I've had luck with is to divide all our works into two or three columns, and tell students to pick one from each and demonstrate course synthesis by constructing an argument that connects them.

Original. I love both.

Also, the theater was pretty full. (Tickets at this place are $3.50.) People still want to go to the movies; they just don't want to have to drop $100 per family to do it.

Local theater had The Addams Family on the big screen tonight. I have never seen another pair of actors doing horny as well as Raul Julia and Angelica Huston, and I doubt I ever will. Just the absolute horniest.

Scholars of eighteenth-century topics: consider submitting your work to *Digital Defoe*. We publish essays on Defoe, but also on his "contemporaries," which we're inclined to interpret broadly. More info here:
