I’m the first congressional candidate to be indicted under the second Trump administration.
But if things keep going the way they are, I won’t be the last.
That’s why I need to fight these charges with everything we’ve got. Help us do that here: katforillinois.com/legal

Food banks across the U.S. were stretched thin even before the federal government shut down. Rising food prices had driven a growing number of people to their doors. Cuts to federal programs had left them with less to give. Now, that system is anticipating an even greater surge in demand.

Growing need and decreased resources are squeezing the charitable food system beyond its capacity, leaders say.

Democrats are furious that the Trump Administration held a briefing on Capitol Hill today about U.S. military strikes on suspected drug boats. Only Republicans were invited. This is from Sen. Mark Warner D-VA.

Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

Another joy in these poets is their complexity & ambiguity. For Glück or Wyatt (or Surrey & Sidney) poetic tropes & myth are unstable, shifting, amenable to exploring identity, politics, time, the cosmos. Celan loves words but knows they’re slippery & exploits it. ‘Keep yes and no unsplit,’ he says.

I’ve spent the day so far with Wyatt, Glück & Celan. Odd poet combination. But a common message. Don’t compromise. Read, learn & work at your craft of course. But ultimately write for what’s in your ‘poetic conscience’: an idea of excellence, a vision of eternity. Do that & the rest falls into place
