Zohran’s citibike numbers make me feel like we need to start demanding bike share stats from our politicians in the same way we demand tax returns

Traffic in cities is a geometry problem, not a technology problem.
Here are 10 cyclists taking up the space of approximately one car.

In London, 60% of car trips are single-occupant

Cycle lanes and cyclists don't cause congestion; cars do
It is nominally due to a planned fare system outage, but I like to think it is a little treat to show everyone how great Chicago transit is. Plus, it is a great opportunity to revel over the unparalleled night service on several train lines and buses in the city. It is going to be 11 PM to 11 AM.
During a historic veto session here in Illinois, with the future of transit in the balance, CTA, Metra and Pace will be offering a treat in the form of fare free rides this Friday night to Saturday morning. Come out and have a free late night celebration of the transit that makes our city great.
Ventra outage planned for Friday night; CTA, Metra riders will not need to tap
Chicago's Ventra system is set to undergo a system upgrade overnight Friday into Saturday morning, which will take all their readers offline.

All vehicles capped at 15 mph? I could get on board with that little adjustment to the language…
@stevevaccarolaw.bsky.social breaks down the new #bikenyc rule about "e-bikes" & a 15 MPH speed limit.

If you bike in NYC, you need to read this.

Randy Mastro & Eric Adams have no clue what they are doing.

I am becoming convinced that autonomous vehicles are designed to solve the problem of "I live in a wealthy suburb but have a horrible car commute and don't want to drive anymore but also hate trains and buses and refuse to ride a bike."

If you live in Chicago, you've definitely seen people zipping around on blue Divvy bikes, and we've worked with Chicago SAFE to give you a look behind the scenes at Chicago's huge bike share system.

And we'll be working on a full-length video all about Divvy, coming out next month!

Deep dive into the surge in US pedestrian deaths:

"It’s not that more pedestrians are getting hit by vehicles; it’s that the ones that are getting hit are more likely to die."

"[That] seems like fairly strong evidence for the theory that the rise in large SUVs is behind the uptick in ped deaths."
Why Are So Many Pedestrians Killed by Cars in the US?
It’s unfortunately not uncommon for pedestrians to be killed by cars in the US.

The hilarious thing in this case is that is already a location with great bike and transit connectivity. There is already low car ownership rates. more density will only lead to better walkability, bikeability, etc.

Not exaggerating when I say that SB 79, a bill making it easier to build housing near mass transit, is the most consequential piece of legislation that the Democratic Party has passed all year. Saying no to the worst people in our coalition proves we're serious about the future.
From my perspective, I think it is great like that! Surely we can just keep the cars off permanently…

It is possible to differentiate between DIY e-bikes and manufactured e-bikes, so says the Australian state of New South Wales, which has now banned DIY from its trains, all the while still encouraging manufactured e-bikes.

Paris, where they now outnumber motorists across the whole city, is catching up with Europe’s traditional bike capitals, Amsterdam & Copenhagen…In Copenhagen, bikes account for almost half of commuter trips to work/school.” @economist.com

In 2024 across the whole of the UK just one pedestrian was killed by a cyclist.
One day - *one day* - a UK newspaper will do a similar count of motor vehicles speeding inside a 20mph zone.
In 60 minutes I saw 172 cyclists run these lights – it’s a matter of time before they kill someone

The offenders included Lime bike riders, school children and a woman in high-heeled boots
