this soul earns the wolf's trust
more people gather to help it
feeding, petting, dressing wounds
Objects are still thrown
but the people helping shield the wolf
as it regains its strength
and howls once more

Some people stop & leave
Some come back every so often
The few that have nothing better to do with their time
continue hurling objects
The soul doesn't pay them any mind
and offers to help the wolf
the wolf snarls from fear
reflecting betrayal in its life
But through small acts of kindness

thinking they are helping save this creature
The wolf has no pack; it's alone
No kin to protect it or help it
That's how its always been
Until one day, someone steps out from the crowd
Shielding the wolf from the objects
Begging the others to stop the violence
To leave it alone & go back to town

unaware of your prior provoking
blindly throwing more objects
overtime, the wolf loses its strength
collapsing in the circle of hate
as the objects continue to be thrown
Hoping that if you throw enough things at it
the wolf will die
some in the crowd know this is wrong
but continue throwing anyway

call it a monster, laugh & mock it for it's matted fur, exposed ribs, shakey walk, entice it to bite you.
