I made a starter pack of marine social scientists active on #Bluesky. Let me know who I'm missing!

Very nice "Start of the New Year Walk" with my colleagues at Wageningen Marine Research @w-u-r.bsky.social. Past the fishing port of IJmuiden, the dunes and the beach. We even spotted some deer! Of course we finished with traditional Dutch pea soup.

Happy new year! / Gelukkig nieuw jaar! / Zalig nuuj joar!

Leuk verslag van een gave treinreis, David. Ga je ook met de trein terug? Veel plezier op Sicilië!

Very unusual to encounter a group of bagpipers in centre #Delft 🇳🇱. 😃

Our train was being pulled by a reindeer today. Nice touch.
Merry Christmas all!

Killer whales and dolphins… a dynamic duo? 👀

New research has found that Pacific white-sided dolphins & northern resident killer whales are working together to hunt salmon in British Columbia — the first time this behavior has ever been documented between the two species. https://bit.ly/4oWkdFx

The Tinerfeños certainly know how to honour #Christmas. Never seen so many nativity scenes in 4 days. In La Orotava there was even a dedicated route of 24 #Belén, incl one made of #Playmobil 🤩, one where Joseph held the baby Jesus 💪 and several miniatures telling the full nativity story. #Tenerife

Very nice hike from Cruz del Carmen to Punto de Hidalgo in the Anaga massif in #Tenerife. Started with a view of Teide vulcano and then descending from a laurel forest towards a wild coast. Beautiful, continuously changing flora and scenery.

I like this piece a lot about Rosalind Franklin’s role in solving the structure of DNA. It really respects her as a full scientist - what she saw, what she didn’t appreciate, what could have been if she’d had true peers to support her, or had not died so young.

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.
