I'm a Canadian artist living in Toronto. Initially I painted landscapes but the pandemic changed me and now I paint everything, except abstract, but it's still early.
Oils, watercolours, textiles
Photo of meat an art show. I'm wearing all black, have shoulder length light brown hair, glasses, seated on a low grey bench with a coffee cup on the floor beside my foot. On the white wall behind me are three of my paintings and signage with my name and initials NB. The paintings are all landscapes, lower left ice and snow on Lake Ontario, upper righ, green hills in Ireland, lower right sunrise with swirling grey clouds and dark foreground. Me all in black, short sleeves, standing among my paintings of flowers
L>R Three 5x7 at left on a a grey table, red tulips on an easel, red geraniums in a basket, white tulips on dark blue background, tulips, wildflowers, buttercups and at far right, white cosmos. Me all in black with my paintings of people hanging on a white gallery wall. L>R Six portraits of my art heroes - Van Gogh, Thomson, Turner, Monet, Rembrandt, Pachter, woman with wild black hair, woman looking out a window as she works, man in a yellow overcoat. Me dressed in black holding a turquoise purse and my phone, standing in front of a large painting on a white gallery wall. Painting is people walking down a city street. Towers on each side of the road, cars driving north. Three people walk away and throw a bright magenta shadow behind them towards the viewer.

Wow. Poilievre spreading disinformation on camera. The killer was a Trump supporter. The violence is not on the left.
This guy can never be PM. He would put us in step with fascists.

More from the same interview.
Here he talks about the violent and dangerous “authoritarian left”.

This guy can never be PM.

This is him speaking candidly in a friendly room. This is the real Poilievre.

Poor transit which makes people drive/take Ubers which makes the second biggest obstacle - traffic congestion. (Toronto)

I am so angry. News shared by We Rate Dogs Facebook page.
ICE killed a dog name Chopo in a busted search for immigrants.
Heartless dog killers just like their useless boss.

#PortfolioDay Hi, I'm Nancy, a painter living in Toronto. I work primarily in oils on wood panels. I paint landscapes with a nod to feminine influence in nature, industry and society. And sometimes I paint flowers.
Large painting, 36x40, View from above to the intersection of Bay and Front Streets in Toronto. Union station on the right, grey towers in the distance. The pavement in the intersection gives way to deep blue water and a pod of white beluga whales swims north/down below the surface. Large painting 36x40, View down Pay St with towers on either side of the street and traffic heading north towards us. A weak sun tries to break through the clouds. Five people walk down the street on the left. They're silhouetted and dark but throw bright pink shadows behind them. Painting 27x30. A woman stands with her back towards us on the lower right wearing a dark blue pea jacket, crossbody bag and a brown wide-brim fedora. Her long blonde hair blows in the wind. She's looking out from The Battery in St. John's Newfoundland to Signal Hill. Multi-coloured houses are immediately in front of her.The hill is rocky with a few pine trees scattered across it. On the far right portions of the Ocean at The Narrows are visible. Panting, 27x30. Five large white cosmos face to the left, white fluted petals fluttering in the wind, large yellow centres. The background is dark grey on top, deep green with lighter lacy cosmos leaves.

The Blue Jays lose then George leaves Murdoch Mysteries. This has not been a good Monday night.

Same. I had no idea my hockey jinx would transfer to any Toronto team in any playoffs. Last night proved it. I won't be watching tonight or any future games. #GoJaysGo

Yesterday I learned that my hockey jinx transfers to any Toronto team's game if I watch. So today I'm not watching the game. #GoJaysGo #WantItAll

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

In the 60’s I’d often come home to my mother playing Yves Montand records. I learned a bit of French singing along to L’Assassin du Dimanche and C’est si Bon.

WATCH: Do you have to move away from the United States in order to get a clear picture of the United States? @evanedinger.bsky.social covers the reasons he couldn’t move back to the U.S. from Europe now. Hint: #3 is about walkable cities & car dependency, but all are worth seriously thinking about.

Wow that was a great rant on Gretzky on CBC's Commotion just now. The show's about John Candy (Great show, worth listening to for this) but the Gretzky rant stands alone. Looking for a clip.

Thanksgiving in Canada has nothing to do with Columbus!

We are a colonial country with a million things to atone for but Thanksgiving is not one of them.

Our Thanksgiving is timed with the harvest and it's literally just "Be grateful for harvest"

US Imperialism has brain rotted too many of you.

In Namibia, a group of desert lions have left their traditional hunting grounds for the Atlantic coast, to become the world's only maritime lions. One photographer captured this dramatic change in behaviour.

Ugh, I hope you feel better soon and can get back to the trailer this year or next with a refreshed mind. Sometimes crap just piles up and stopping the cycle has a turn-it-off-turn-it-back-on-again affect. Take care.

Three years ago while taking a painting this size down the stairs and out to the car for a show, I fell, broke my ankle in two places, had surgery and metal plates and screws to hold it all together. I was off my feet, out of the studio for 7 months. I don't risk it now. My daughter will help. ❤️

I'm packing this painting up for the Tradition Transformed exhibition at the Orillia Museum of Art & History. Interesting fact. The painting weights about 10lb. The frame weighs about 2 lb. Together, the framed painting weighs about 40lb and I'm unable to carry it down the stairs to the car myself.
36x40" painting of skaters in a snowy landscape half covered by a white foam packing bag with red duct tape around it. The painting stands against a wall with a window in my studio. Wood floor.

More playing with mud in the studio today. This thin layer of frozen mud tied all the layers together.
#art #mud
While in-progress painting 36x40, horizontal.
Muddy gully with frozen patches of ice at the bottom. Grey-blue sky above. Unpainted, sketched in bright pink are a group of people on the ice with hockey sticks, a line of houses along to top of the gully with bare trees and hydro poles. Yellow masking tape edges the gully and outlines the ice patches. Close-up of the mud, dots of dark browns, greys and patches of light on a path that winds down to the ice. 1/8” tape is under the paint marking ridges is the mud and swoops of the hills. Yellow masking tape edges along the top of the gully and houses sketched in pink above the tape.

Same. It was surprisingly easy to leave what I considered my favourite social media platform. It became awful. I don't miss it. Bluesky is different but has the same good intent that Twitter used to have.
alexvont.bsky.social
This is it. I didn’t find it at all difficult to leave Twitter in the end: it stopped being fun and became boring and depressing. Whenever I opened it I’d see things that were obnoxious or upsetting. It was a relief not to do that.
explaintrade.com
This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.
