"Medical gaslighting as a service" is not a use case I anticipated! Doctors seem to enjoy that part of the job so much, why would they outsource it to an app?

Pain does not work like this.

Nothing works like this. There's a reason lie detectors are inadmissible bullshit machines.

But even if it did, those thermometers mentioned in the first sentence? They don't work properly on Black skin. Same with pulse oximeters: they don't work on melanin, either.

Shame and ostracism are part of how we protect ourselves from bad actors in a world without cops or jails, and you know? They work. Because people need other people and most people want and need to be part of their communities to at least some degree.
olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social
some colleagues have suggested to me that shame is irrelevant because the people on the "other side" don't know or care what "we" (on whatever "this side") think of them. I have...not gotten that impression

"disliking me is persecution" describes so incredibly many people's entire outlook these days defector.com/free-press-r...

Exerting sounds like something positive for you? I hope?

the entire conservative project these days is built off of making it illegal to dislike them or say rude things about them even in private

it is not enough to be in charge, or even feared, they must be adored

or else

this is exactly why i think it is totally justified to criticize Nuzzi
cjciaramella.bsky.social
The reason reporters are talking about the Nuzzi stuff so much, besides gawking at a car crash, is that there's a handful of prestige jobs like that left, and we've all been passed over and know other reporters who've been passed over for them in favor of well-networked barnacles.

Oh, that was so much fun!

But we had to be quick, because "playing with your food" was forbidden.

Oh dear - loved them from the first encounter, at 5 years old.

(My parents were *surprised*.)

I need to get this off of my chest. There is a strong distinction between bullying and shaming. I've seen too many people shouting "Nerds should be more bullied!" Bullying is the apotheosis of punching down. It is the strong hurting the weak. Shaming is pointing out that someone is being awful.

*checks box: economy of language*

Time to share a knuckle-sandwich.

Or, at the very least, a block. (As I'm about to do myself, while admiring your own fortitude.)
morselya.bsky.social
Wow. That's a real TIL moment, thank you so much!
morselya.bsky.social
That's... not actually a deep surprise, all things considered.

(thanks for letting me know!)

My day is complete; I have heard of a Very Weird pop-culture character - from Japan, which will surprise no one.

O-shiri Tantei (おしりたんてい)Butt-Detective.

(And that's another tv show Loving Spouse will get to watch only when I am not in the living room.)

*looks confused*

Shoulder?

or is shudder an app I am ignorant of?
morselya.bsky.social
Nah, unless "dork" is meant with friendly affection.

(Not "affectation", pretty please?)

Dark Academia, but free of the taint of certain... haters.

Spotify is running ICE recruitment ads. I ditched it awhile ago for other political reasons, but this might tip your hand.

Thanks for the heads up @chuckwendig.bsky.social.

I sometimes do that - early rather than late. But the effect can be similar: not great braining for the rest of the day.

Good afternoon, almost evening, from the Europe crowd.

Or, well at least me. :)
morselya.bsky.social
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

(Sorry for the actor-ese of that question.)

*said to the air*

"I wonder if someone's playing silly-buggers with the system? And all those phone calls, despite being dropped, are instead being 'registered' as productive 'patient interactions'?"

(Okay, enough paranoia for the day, right?)
