Every day is like a cross between “Who Goes Nazi?” and “…the Aristocrats!”

It is to the shame of all the male reporters in the room that they do not immediately leave

Trump ignores a question from a woman reporter but says, "I just like to watch her talk. Good job. Thank you darling."

Like much of that this regime does, the murders of Venezuelan fishermen and boat passengers seem to be being conducted for the sake of making social media content that demonstrates Trump’s masculine dominance. So one way to describe them is as snuff films.

There is no conceivable argument that these ships, even if we assume they were carrying narcotics, could not be dealt with in some other way. I think we can just drop the caveats and say: This is mass murder.
chrislhayes.bsky.social
Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

An alarm has been going off on my block for five (5) hours and I just think that whoever is responsible for this should be sent to The Hague.

This kind of expose has lost much of its power when these people no longer claim to value anything aside from racial and gender hierarchy.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

Crazy how literally nothing is better than the love of a cat.

The Post is among several prominent mainstream media outlets that have pivoted right in recent months, betting that there’s a market for the center-right conservatism and cautiously pro-Trump political coverage that mirrors the preferences of their billionaire owners.

I made these cute little apple-cardamom turnovers with the apples I got when I went apple picking upstate this weekend! Now I just have to use the other 14 pounds of apples.
A plate of turnovers on my kitchen table.

As a feminist I’m maybe more invested than most in the idea that major figures of history cannot be neatly categorized as “bad, therefore nothing they did was good” or “good, therefore nothing bad they did matters.” But Columbus is an unusually unambiguous case. His only achievement was an accident!

The notion that those who took part in slavery or conquest were merely abiding by the moral standards of their time necessary excludes those they targeted and kidnapped from those standards; *they* were never confused about this. But other white people were frequently disgusted by this stuff too!
pedsortho.bsky.social
Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.

If I mention that I have a wife please do not respond with your own imaginings about our sex life or various men you think I might be attracted to.

Not really what I’m saying.

Also a lot of people who opposed slavery on moral grounds were also deeply racist!
