The sign: Bill 212 is arbitrary and reckless, but it does NOT block every new bike lane project in Toronto or anywhere in Ontario. And to date no municipality has been prescribed to require provincial approval, not even Toronto despite the (now unconstitutional) attempts to remove Bloor, Yonge, University.

Bike Share is a real Toronto success story, and Toronto Parking have been a good steward since it was saved from bankruptcy. All that's missing is a plan to double the current number of trips and catch and pass Montreal in the next 5 years. In the @thestar.com :

Which doesn’t mean there’s nothing to be done. Council actually has a traffic-calming plan for Parkside that would involve infrastructure aimed at moderating drivers’ speeds. The holdup, Perks said, is that a key part of the plan is adding separated bike lanes.

“The province of Ontario has brought in legislation that makes it difficult to put bike lanes in,” Perks said, “and they have yet to promulgate the regulations for what municipalities need to do in order to satisfy them that a new bike lane is worthwhile.”

This is fantastic work. We were trying to get the City to start publicizing their official counts during Bike Month as the Charter challenge was being deliberated. (We could only access two about months prior at the time and those numbers didn't quite tell the story we were looking for.)
