I guess my point is, if there is anyone who is failing to adequately question the rhetorical-ideological framework of trans identity under capitalism, and in so doing coming right back around to reifying those oppressive structures, it's her. She's the mascot.

I don't know the woman but her posts read like her most regular contact with other trans people is scrolling endlessly thru their shit posts, alongside well meaning but totally boneheaded expressions of cis allyship by the kind of "bourgeois" who would rather have as little change as possible.

The budget for our food, our hobbies and our life saving care is so often the same damn budget because of how this country operates. The "designer vagina" is a joke that reflects a material condition that being trans imposes on us - but invoking "freedom of choice" in that context is disingenuous.

I'd love to have a conversation about how the cultural identity of being trans is constructed under capitalism. critique the way I see trans girls asking each other "what kind of trans" they are based on the shit they buy. We're subject to unique pressures under capitalism! We should talk about it!

I do think Ari Drennen could have made the same point by walking up to every trans person and blowing an air horn straight into their face. Not to be a broken record, but men seem to think it's really funny to ask why all the hottest girls they know have stomach problems, so I always make sure to point out that IBS is so strongly correlated with sexual abuse in childhood that it's become one of the diagnostic screening questions.
