Isn't it cool when you can make a better ai model by being like smart and thinking about a problem and then solving it instead of just getting mommy and daddy to buy you one million more nvidia gpus or asking google to let you train your model on everything anyone has ever uploaded to google docs

like you can have fairly large amounts of training data synthetically generated from just a small academic fully-licensed dataset if you're smart about your degradation model. if you're somewhat savvy about image editing the paper on Real-ESRGAN is super interesting to read

upscaling is actually a really interesting problem because since the point is to be able to reconstruct a high-res image from arbitrarily degraded images, the way you synthetically degrade the images in your dataset ends up mattering way more than the size of your "base" dataset

I would like to emphasize two very important things. First: despite being branded as AI, upscaling tools aren't a generative thing like the stuff we all hate, which also isn't actually AI. But second: we don't need a moral reason to oppose it being used when the examples here look so fucking bad

matsuno's last game writing work potentially being like writing for live service games that are kind of an ill fit for the kind of story hes good at telling kind of sucks. i hope he gets to work on a real game again soon

generally for system critical packages there's instructions on how to intervene in the archlinux news page, but if you don't see anything and the package doesn't look critical generally pacman -Rdd packagename and then pacman -Syu packagename works fine

on the other hand like. it helps that athena the tireless one is one of the best songs theyve put in the game since like shadowbringers but this might be my favorite remix in all of the albums
