Charlie Browns mom: Waaah wah wah wah waaah waaah waaah wah

Charlie Brown: oh, you mean pigpen

Charlie browns mom: Wah way. Waaaah wahwahwah wah wah waaah waaaah wahwhawah wah wah

Charlie Brown: yeah I get that. It’s pretty bad over there but I don’t think they hit him

it’s particularly weird because it’s not like the Dodgers next two starters are great bets to go seven innings let alone nine and have exactly one reliever who hasn’t been bad in the playoffs

cheering a team on BECAUSE they’re 23rd in payroll or whatever is like having a shitty job where you’re underpaid, seeing the owner of the company roll into work in a Rolls Royce, and yelling “way to go, boss! you did it!” it is such absolute loser energy.

“it’s not fair, the dodgers spent too much money”

there is no such thing as too much money. that’s the whole damn idea if you’re rich as sin and have enough money to BUY A BASEBALL TEAM. you spend and spend and if that doesn’t work you spend some more

now what are all the “pitchers are such soft babies who never pitch complete games anymore” whiners going to whine about
mikegianella.bsky.social
the people who cheer small market teams for winning and not spending money don’t understand that this is a formula for not getting very far in the playoffs (or they do understand and choose to pretend otherwise)

And this is why you spend a bajillion dollars. The Blue Jays did a lesser version of this, and most of the guys they spent on sucked, but when you spend it gives you so much more of a safety net

So last year the Dodgers barely had a rotation and so they had to pitch a bunch of bullpen games in the playoffs and they still won the World Series. This year, despite their best efforts, their bullpen is kind of bad and they’re just gonna not use it and win the World Series again anyway.

I suspect that’s generally the way it works, can’t recall a player on a World Series winner who got blamed for coming up short
mikegianella.bsky.social
he was terrible in the World Series last year, no one remembers because the Dodgers won easily

it’s like he was working in that extremely dingy office at the beginning of Joe Versus The Volcano

it's so funny andrew vaughn was only lousy because he was playing on a team with insanely bad vibes

just stumbled into one of my new favorite Wikipedia blurbs: “Sarge is too lovable to be a villain, however (citation needed)”

Coffee is the ultimate former alcoholic drink. You can pay a guy $18 to make a fancy version of it right in front of your bloodshot eyes, or you can buy one in a gas station for a buck and a half while slowly crying to "Night Moves" because you just need to feel something again

I was a stringer in college for a hockey team and I remember those types of reporters, particularly the ones who left after the second period. Even then I had so much resentment toward those guys

I did not think anything could be as tone deaf as democratic fundraising texts but it turns out this was a failure of my imagination

say what you will about janet mills's age, but as a politician she's truly unstoppable, by which i mean i've replied STOP three times today to identical fundraising pitches for her, each apparently coming from a different number/superPAC/whatever, but the messages keep coming in

Mariners fans, who (doesn’t have to be realistic lol) would you like to see throw out a first pitch this week?
mikegianella.bsky.social
overwhelmingly, teams that spend money are vastly more successful once they get to the playoffs than teams that do not

it isn’t universal but the correlation over the last 20 years is far too high for it to simply be random happenstance
mikegianella.bsky.social
when you can roll the losses into your larger gazillion dollar enterprise what does it matter?
mikegianella.bsky.social
maybe that’s right about Vance specifically but there are far too many true believers at this point to genuinely believe Trumpism is going anywhere anytime soon

Trump handed the GOP a working roadmap, why would they stop using it as long as it continues to work?
