I think a lot about Cushing as Van Helsing, in Brides Of Dracula, saying these words: "Only God has no fear." It's not a prayer, yet it is.

SINGING I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL

PUT ANOTHER DIME IN THE JUKEBOX BABY

I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL

ˡᵒʳᵉᵐ ⁱᵖˢᵘᵐ ᵈᵒˡᵒʳ AND DANCE WITH ME
* Excepting the Beat Takeshi one, but while I love it I also consider it false Zatoichi.
And it has as bravura a finale as any Zatoichi movie* - Zatoichi dispatches some henchmen while wearing a blood red oni mask, breakdances on a pavilion slicked with lantern oil, and after being set on fire, confronts the ghoulish yakuza boss while his cloak burns. It rips.

Highly recommended.
And even were you to grant that none of the elements are new, they play out with unusual intensity. Ichi is defending himself from two different false accusations of murder, in addition to a looming confrontation with another master swordsman wishing to test his skill.
Complaining about Zatoichi getting stuck with an orphan, Zatoichi gambling, Zatoichi taking on the debt of a desperate stranger and paying it back in blood....Do you complain that the sun rises each day, that darkness falls when it sets? Do you complain about that one season follows another?
In the first place it's absurd to complain about recurring scenes and stories in films that aspire to folklore.
There are those who will tell you that ZATOICHI AT LARGE (1972) is a lesser entry, a retread of previous plotlines in a series that was running out of ideas...

They are wrong!
Dumping a bagful of fallen leaves into the CoinStar machine in exchange for a single hour of sunlight.

things that would earn you Man Points:
- sludging the lawn
- running over and banging on his trash can
- hitting his shed roof with a tennis ball
- playing on the fence after he said it was dangerous
- building / reinforcing the sprawling fort we built in order to monitor The Man more closely

there was this guy who lived on the other side of a fence behind my best friend's house. we called him "The Man" and us neighborhood kids used to soak pinecones in buckets of water and then dump the slurry into his yard in order to earn "Man Points"

Every ai video sucks because they’re never more than their prompts, you’re like ‘yeah that’s a video of a dinosaur eating chips whilst skateboarding,” but like that’s it - you could just post your prompt and it’d be the same. But every real piece of film contains MORE than just its script

Criterion has all of the original run of films and I've been watching them one a week on Sunday nights. In some ways a Columbo-like figure, shabby, sometimes bashful and bumbling, underestimated to your utter ruin.

Cheering this on while also fully admitting my version of this is the first six words. But that’s a me problem, unrelated to my personal politics.
i do not want to "work from anywhere". i want to work in my dedicated work environment with all my dedicated work assisting tools. i do not want to send an email from the coffee shop or the park. i want to do coffee shop or park related tasks when i'm in the coffee shop or park
Zatoichi, although his help often starts with or ends in tragedy.

I didn't take pics but the feeling of being in a group of people with no visible beginning or end was so thrilling. The opposite of online anomie, and a living counterpoint to the wary, isolated, compartmentalized world the shitheads want to make. It's simple and obvious I guess but it means a lot.
Sorry to be corny but the aerial shots of these crowds are almost indescribably moving and hopeful
