In honor of Columbus Day, a few thoughts from @charlescmann.bsky.social, who knows more than most of us about the man and the event the day is supposed to mark.

As the guy in the White House has recently insisted, today is Columbus Day. What to do about it, given Indigenous peoples’ entirely merited dislike of the whole thing? A couple-three ideas that I've been thinking about. 1/

Trump: "But Air Force One was really, it was covered with Egyptian desert just a few months ago. If you think about it. Just a few months ago it was Egyptian desert and now it was just a few feet off our window. And it was a spectacular sight."

Boston, MA — 165 years ago today

Taken from a hot air balloon, this photo is one of the first examples of urban aerial photography.

It pre-dates the US Civil War and it was taken more than 40 years before the Wright brothers’ first airplane flight.

Ah yes, the evil cabal of Antifa-billionaires and their grassroots-funded pawns are directing the largest peaceful protest in US history!

Has anyone gotten their George Soros check yet? We haven’t 😔 we keep having to buy frog costumes and make signs ourselves.

Oh, wait the Trump regime is lying???

Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

“It’s a cliché,” he said, “but music really IS the closest we come to a universal language. It crosses borders as effortlessly as a cloud.”

As if an encrusted silver dress was not already a lot, it has a scarlet satin coat with a matching silver lining. There is an occasion here of which I can only imagine. Late #1950s Arnold Scaasi @mfaboston.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
