Want to be crystal clear that when I say "overall filers" I mean the number of households (7%) who pay this tax has grown even if the tippy top of this top 7% did not. The bottom line is that overall we have seen growth in the no. of households earning over 200k/yr! www.portland.gov/council/dist...

We are dealing with extreme heat in Multnomah County. 🥵 The following libraries will have extended hours today:
Extended Library Hours
Central Library - 8pm
Gresham Library - 8pm
Midland Library - 8pm
Grateful and inspired by the @friendsofpfa.bsky.social and all of the partner organizations that organized a massive turnout to protect one of most common sense programs I have seen. Truly inspiring work.
Over the past month, our coalition and our community came together to say, NO CUTS, NO COMPROMISES. Thank you for every email, phonecall, public comment, and PB&J assembly line for toddlers at evening meetings. Together, we won Preschool for All- AGAIN! The tax cuts are paused!
FULL RETREAT.
🚨 This just in from the board meeting:

Brim Edwards is moving to table her proposal indefinitely until a later date agreed on by the board, and made a motion to make today a briefing and discussion on her indexing proposal instead of a vote.

Full retreat.

Organizing gets the goods.
Listen to this great testimony and then write your County Commissioners to say hands off Preschool for All!

We only get nice things if we rise up to defend them.
This right here! P4A taxpayers all about P4A as is!
SO PROUD of my beautiful amazing girlfriend for testifying against P4A indexing *as a* P4A taxpayer. The indexing proposal was tabled later in this meeting and everyone who spoke up contributed.
It’s time! Join @friendsofpfa.bsky.social for a rally TODAY. Then MC listening session about indexing. What’s that? Who cares. It’s not what we voted for, uses false narratives, & won’t improve programs or access. I’m a PfA mom and a certified smart person. I know indexing is the wrong question.

Great thread and supporting responses sharing great information about preschool for all.

I’m testifying 8/28. Join me! If you’re nervous lmk and I will cheer you on! I’m bringing my kiddo. Preschool is closed that week. Bring yours!
PDX read this explainer about the perils of Julia Brim-Edwards's janky indexing scheme for Preschool for All from @friendsofpfa.bsky.social. Then smash the button to email the Country and the link to sign up to testify at one of the august dates. mailchi.mp/e643b845b722...
We have Julia Brim-Edwards on the backfoot – let’s keep pushing!

And rollout of any major program is going to be tough, let alone during COVID. As a mom to a 4.5 year old in a PfA school, I can offer ideas for improvement, but at the end of the day the moms I know and myself will take free and govt backed/monitored in a heartbeat.
lol I did not edit my screen shot. And look - it turned out to be a great opportunity to learn more about Friends of PfA!
🥰... our emails do contain a lot of good info! Get on the list at friendsofPFA.org to get yours!✨
Some ppl are shouting about how the preschool for all tax is driving ppl out of Multco. Here’s some information data about what ppl pay. The cost of moving would be more than this tax. If you + partner’s taxable income is 270k, you owe $1k. No one is moving for $1000.
Thank you Councillor for your unwavering support!
It was great to be in a room full of families and local leaders to say: we support Preschool For All! East Portland has the most families out of all the districts, so it’s very important to me that we keep growing PFA.

Yall! We need help. Pls reach out! Even if, and maybe especially if you don’t have a kid a PfA. Don’t have kids and understand how this matters? Pay the tax and are totally fine with it? Or pay the tax and know that it on its own it’s not going to make you run away from the county? Please share!
you could even do more than this. Call them. Chalk the sidewalk outside the county building. Sky writing

Parents at the press conference were talking about how the costs of preschool were more than their mortgage payments. We have to save this program.
A group of about four dozen parents, preschool teachers and advocates gathered in front of Escuela Viva in Southeast Portland Wednesday morning for a press conference, urging Gov. Tina Kotek stop threatening Multnomah County’s universal preschool program.

Made it to Salem (making calls on the way) to defend Preschool for All against an unconscionable, undemocratic attempt to kill Preschool for All.

As of now, over 23,000 emails have been sent in support of Preschool for All.

Thank you to everyone who has spoke out. Please keep it up!
Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson is in the backseat of a car in route to Salem to defend preschool for all while making a phone call.
Hearing starts at 1. PfA informational hearing is last.
Here's who you need to write and call RIGHT NOW to protest the attempt to kill Preschool for All at 1pm today. This is the Senate Finance Committee driving this effort on behalf of the governor and the wealthiest people in the Portland metro area. www.wweek.com/news/schools...

Also! PfA put a lot of work into recruiting providers or color and bilingual programs. Those schools now depend on that funding. They are recruiting and training more people to provide care. One major hurdle to preschool? A work force. PfA is creating that.
