"Fully Depreciated" is a tax and accounting term that indicates the asset is past its useful economic life, the sort of incredibly nerdy business reference that I would make but in this context its about a young woman, which prompts one to ask, well, how would her value be going down

This detail from the WSJ’s new Trump-Epstein reporting also seems pretty bad www.wsj.com/us-news/law/...
The Epstein estate also turned over another letter from the book that references Trump. It came from businessman and longtime Mar-a-Lago member Joel Pashcow, who made a crude joke about a woman that Trump and Epstein socialized with in the 1990s, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Pashcow letter included a photo of a posterboard-sized check for $22,500, which had been mocked up to appear that it was sent from Trump to Epstein. Beneath it, a handwritten caption said: “Jeffrey showing early talents with money + women sells ‘fully depreciated’ [redacted] to Donald Trump for $22,500.” The woman’s name is redacted in the image.

i cannot imagine having a brain which makes you think this and not "it is regrettable that the Republican party could not maintain a cordon sanitaire"
veryimportant.lawyer
everyone needs to internalize that this is just how all republicans are and when nancy pelosi said "the country needs a strong republican party" she meant that more people like this should be powerful. they are all like this! they all think just like this and like trump and they love it and it's fun

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

A reminder, that today, on here, the tone of the website is what it is but out in the real world, Democrats are holding the line on the shutdown, MTG is slagging Republican leadership for the shutdown, and Thune and Johnson are on TV waxing rhapsodic about ANTIFA controlled cities

there are a lot of takes on the Aztec Empire, some of them intended to avoid ethnocentrism, which take the position that Mesoamericans like dying to atrocities, which makes one wonder why the people making those arguments believe the Spanish did anything wrong.

the consecration of the Templo Mayor, which had occurred just 32 years before the Spanish arrived, killed a substantial multiple of the Srebrenica Massacre.

we talk about the Aztec Empire as though it was an institution of great antiquity, but its worst abuses started in the time of living people's grandparents or great-grandparents. it had been growing more and more extractive and murderous as long as the current generation had been alive.

this is cursed, there's a reason the peoples under the aztecs were willing to help Spain out and it wasn't naivete

"Sapiens" is so normal for the first 70,000 years of human history but then goes absolutely buckwild as soon as it gets to colonialism

Bradley Whitford in Star Wars:

Brad: "So, gloopy you know how he blinded himself?"

Al Pacino: "my friends name is Glup shitto. Doesn't like to be called gloopy. Just a warning"

BW: "so he starts juggling these lightsabers and he's really going until he starts turning them on.."

AP: "Hoo-ah!"

While any further reporting on hostilities or massacres will be discouraged, the fallback position, if absolutely necessary, will be, "President Donald J. Trump secured this peace agreement. It is up to everyone else to uphold it."

The boss said the war is over, so now, nothing in the material world can be allowed to gainsay him. Any supposed facts to the contrary are in error or falsified.

There's a weird political split right now between american bishops and the pontiff that will be interesting, Am Bishops are kinda right wing-ey and very Reform/evangelical in their outlook (that's an insult) and Leo is, well, meeting with immigrant leaders
