AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.

Though I don't post there, I didn't delete my twitter acc, and when occasionally checking something, it's a big shock to see many people active in archaeology/human origins/history/sci comm STILL treating it as their main platform.
It is such a shame that the splintering hasn't healed.

Letter to the editor:
In 2018 alone, the EU gave £5.9bn to help deprived UK regions.

Now the government calls £5bn over ten years “ambitious.”

Brexit really did take from the poor to give to a slogan.
Letter to the editor: £5bn over ten years isn’t ‘ambitious’ – it’s a fraction of what the EU once gave

Not only the perpetrators but the men who know & don’t report their colleagues and speak out. They have a power to do this with less doubt being cast on their claims & less risk of career backlash than female colleagues & students of all genders.

I'm not a keen follower of the Epstein case. Maybe this is something everyone knows.

But I'm shocked and revolted by the male academics who one after another raped trafficked children. My god I hope you are all found and punished.

Solidarity with the survivors.

They lie about the ECHR.
Just like they lied about Brexit. Claiming if we just got rid of that ‘European’ thing, we’d be free, we’d have control, all our problems solved…
It’s NOT TRUE.
We’d inflict more chaos on ourselves and torch our own human rights framework for NOTHING.
For liars.
Again.

The government can launch inquiries into grooming gangs with full political force, rightly so.

Yet it turns a blind eye to domestic abuse in family courts, where survivors and children are trapped with abusers.

My piece for @theleaduk.bsky.social

The family courts are complicit in abuse - and the government looks away
How can a government that pledges to halve violence against women and girls ignore the state-sanctioned arm of that violence?

Chikungunya is a really, really nasty disease, much-feared in Asia for its 'break bone' pain and haemorrhagic aspects.

To be avoided.

New York health officials have confirmed the first locally transmitted case of the chikungunya virus which causes high fever, joint pain and fatigue.

It’s usually a tropical virus, but there are now infected mosquitoes spreading in New York. (NYT)
