45k healthcare workers launched a 5-day strike today.

A stark reminder that many, many people who support evidence-based medicine have serious grievances with a for-profit system that rewards executives at the expense of both patients and workers.

A) WaPo goes conservative and maintains the readership. That's a win

B) WaPo goes conservative and loses the readership. Still a win as that's one less major liberal outlet

I'm literally a communist in a big tent socialist organization. Who is the extreme left here? Do they actually have any kind of clout regarding socialist organizing?

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

You can arrest us or pepper spray us or whatever, but we will make you look stupid and feel silly doing it because wanting to assert control is stupid. You want to assert control? Do it to an inflatable frog!
So, it’s not just a meme thing, it’s a Portland cultural thing.

In Portland, an ambulance was summoned to the ICE office to treat an injured protester (not clear how he was injured). But when the patient was loaded inside, ICE officers refused to let the ambulance leave and threatened to shoot the ambulance driver: www.wweek.com/news/2025/10...

Feds delayed medics who had come to pick up an injured protester. Then, according to confidential incident reports, the agents became aggressive.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

The cost of fabric will depend on what you're buying.

— Chinese-made shirt fabric will cost you about $3 or $4 per yard.
— Portuguese fabric will cost about $5 or $6 yard.
— Turkish fabric is $8 or $9.
— Italian fabric can be higher.

To make a shirt, you need 1.75 yards.
A fabric mill. Some finish shirt fabric in a swatch book.

Entire way of experiencing movies that zoomers will never remember, that people my age barely remember, where you watched something because it was on. Feels like there is an entire genre of movie that was meant to be seen in that format. You couldn’t make Swordfish (2001) today.
