Understatement of the year: there's a lot happening with science and the environment...

Here's how I plan to cover these issues. Contact me if you have a story idea.
A card with contact info for reporter Lisa Song (at ProPublica). "I cover how environmental regulations -- or the lack thereof -- affect communities. I'm interested in talking to current and former employees at the EPA, NOAA, USGS and similar agencies with tips on policy changes and political meddling in scientific research." POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

Doing science journalism is hard nowadays. I shared with @theopennotebook.bsky.social a day in my life not because I have everything figured out — far from it — but to show that our career trajectories are inherently messy, and the process of finding ourselves while making an impact is what matters.

MIT rejects "compact" proposed by the Trump administration.
MIT prez wrote: it "would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution" and "is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone."

A beloved colleague who was terminated last year through management's vague and inconsistent disciplinary process regularly brought apple cake to the office on his birthday. As we did last year, we are marking his absence and calling for job security protections with apple cake in our NYC office.
A smiling guild member wearing a ProPublica Guild shirt uncovers the apple cakes in the ProPublica office. Many guild members wearing ProPublica Guild shirts help themselves to slices of apple cake.

The dedication to visually representing each of the 4,304 deliveries in the background scroll is admirable and conveys the loss to food banks.

The personal interviews and portraits are concise but powerfully relate these cuts’ impact on peoples' lives.

Everyone’s’ “must read” today.

Even if you don’t watch the show English Teacher, hope you'll read this. This is about more than 1 show, 1 guy.

FX just renewed a show from a man facing allegations of assault. I have a LOT of questions about the implications not just for FX but for the whole industry www.salon.com/2025/02/12/f...
FX’s renewal of "English Teacher" sends a dangerous message
