What our community lost on 18 February 2021. A reminder of why Islington council should have done better. Remembering Connor’s campaign.

A lot of mobility innovation focuses on making existing options even more comfortable for the most privileged, at the expense of children, the elderly, people with low incomes or disabilities. If we’re not designing for them, we're designing ourselves out of the system: fair-mobility.eu/the-library/
An elderly woman rides a bike along a separated cycle path in front of two small children in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Yesterday's #Dieselgate trial opened with this from Thomas de la Mare KC:

"Each player in the industry basically took a conscious decision that customer convenience, which helped the industry sell more cars, was more important" than preventing #AirPollution.

It is time the car manufacturers paid.
'Dieselgate': Five carmakers go on trial over emissions cheat claims
The trial is the latest chapter of what has become known as the "dieselgate" scandal.

How much more proof do we need ? Do the 'powers' just not want to get it ?

New study from Melbourne finds reducing residential speed limits from 50km/h to 30 km/h on local roads would protect cyclists from danger, make riding less stressful and get more people cycling while not causing traffic delays for cars.

🚲 How can we expect more people to cycle?

BTP won’t investigate bikes left for over 2 hours or worth under £200. We’ve written an open letter urging them to rethink this low-risk, high-reward approach to bike theft.

Why is UK government's Treasury department using Twatter to deal with tax payer queries? Aren't there better options than supporting an overseas tech bro ?

A fantastic evening yesterday - women coming together to discuss tackling London's cycling gender gap 🚲 🚲

This was the first time the LCC Women's Network has convened its associate member organisations. Watch out London, and watch this space... 👀
A group of women - 8 seated in the front row, including one in a wheelchair, and 10 standing in the row behind. All are smiling and three are wearing headscarves A group of women chatting in a room with a red carpet and chandelier. there is a table of drinks in the background 8 people seated at a boardroom style table listening to a speaker Caroline Russell, dressed in black, stands at a boardroom table speaking with six women seated next to her listening

Cycle on a pavement: get grief. Cycle on the road: get grief. Cycle in a shared-use space: get grief. Cycle on a *checks notes* National Cycle Route: get grief.

Cycle like a ninja: get grief. Use your voice: how dare you. Use your bell: also, how dare you.

You. Just. Can't. Win.

Is this really the most important thing to be talking about at the moment ?
letsgetcracking.bsky.social
In Islington, one space in a cycle hangar is £107.25 pa.
Lambeth charges £30 pa
Hackney charges £53 pa

So it's a good option depending where you live. Secure storage for a family with say 4 bikes for a year would be prohibitive in Islington.

The latest in our Language Matters series looks at our definition & how it applies to active travel, transport, public space and environmental schemes.

Le boom du vélo à Paris n'est pas seulement une bonne nouvelle pour les cyclistes. Moins de bouchons c'est aussi moins de bruit, moins de pollution, et un meilleur cadre de vie pour l'ensemble de Parisiens.

London's Network of Cycleways is continuing to grow and get even better. 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲

Great to see the temporary cycle lanes on Haverstock Hill being made permanent by Camden Council - this includes new kerbs to protect cyclists, raised zebras and new bus stop bypasses.
