"In an era when it’s exceedingly hard to learn what the Old Masters knew, Art + Water will impart those skills. These emerging artists must know how to draw, and from there, they’ll be taught everything Rembrandt was taught." - Dave Eggers

For fifteen years or so, I’d been kicking around the idea of resurrecting the artist-apprentice model that reigned in the art world for hundreds of...

The whiplash from 'we are going to build responsible AI' and 'were worried about the addictive nature of these tools'

To:

'Were going to build a porn bot', 'were building a additctive, endless scroll social media app' and 'were bringing back the addictive model'

Is pretty big

Woah! So Labour's position really is, 'telling us off for breaching human rights undermines the case for human rights'? Proper Trumpian stuff from Labour's answer to Suella Braverman.

Stop trying to over-intellectualise these people. There is no grand philosophy behind it. It’s hate, it’s as simple as that. If you’re grasping for reasons why that can’t be, save yourself the energy. You’ll need it for something else.

You can’t burn your bridges with people who are committed to racism. The bridges never existed in the first place. That’s hard to understand for people who don’t have to navigate at least one situation a week where they or their loved ones are treated as subhuman. But it’s true.

The Spectator (owned by GBNews owner Paul Marshall - estimated wealth of £800 million) doesn’t like taxing wealth fairly.

I wonder how they got to this editorial decision?

Let’s tax wealth fairly, fund front line services & make hope normal again.

Polanski is talking nonsense about wealth taxes.

Love this photograph by Gerda Taro. Sailors having a right old time on board Republican battleship 'Jaime I'. Almería harbour, 1937. Galician pipes, accordion, banjo, palms. Let's imagine wild versions of A las Barricadas and Ay Carmela. Cristiano Ronaldo to the left of the accordionist?

It's a strange state of affairs where world leaders have to consider whether public support of Trump's Nobel Prize quest can get them, say, a tariff reduction of 5 percentage points.

Johnson: "Together with my friend Speaker Ohana of the Israeli Knesset we're going to rally speakers and presidents of parliaments around the world so we will jointly nominate President Donald J Trump for next year's Nobel Prize. No one has ever deserved that prize more & that is an objective fact."

Sigh. More no-evidence-based policy-making.

It will be IQ next and a million in the bank.

A good piece, with a couple of examples of bad NYT headlines undermining good reporting as a bonus.

The MAGA “influencers” accompanying Noem, & the administration itself, are lying.

Not living in a different reality or having a different view of the facts. Intentionally lying.

Propaganda.

Marc Benioff, who used to lean kind of liberal, has decided it's more convenient to be right-wing, and he owns Time. (I heard an interesting podcast conversation about how MAGA despises Silicon Valley oligarchs because they have no real commitments except maximal profit.)
