“The sad story of our misadventures in ensuring the nation benefits from the export of its gas is told in a report by the Australia Institute.”

Read Ross Gittins' op ed in The Sydney Morning Herald on untaxed gas exports and why the Government won’t change this.

Warning Canada!

Big Gas promised Australians LNG exports would mean plenty of low cost gas and enormous economic benefits.

None of it was true.

Instead we got gas shortages, manufacturing closures higher energy bills and few economic benefits.

Opinion: Canada, don’t make the same mistake with LNG that Australia did
LNG exports exposed Australians to high global gas prices, allowed gas producers to price gouge and drained the country of low-cost gas reserves

The iron ore industry pays billions more in royalties than the oil and gas industry.

So why does oil and gas get special treatment?

The ancient Indigenous rock art on WA’s Burrup Peninsula has been deservedly listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Register.

But the spectacular Murujuga petroglyphs remain under threat.

Scientific evidence reveals that pollution from Woodside's gas export hub has seriously damaged the engravings.

Australia is one of the biggest gas exporters in the world, but we're told to worry about a domestic gas shortage?

Might have something to do with the fact that 80% of our gas is exported.

We have a gas export problem, not a supply problem.

Extract from Lattouf judgement

"ABC managers...extraordinarily sensitive to the risk of criticism by The Australian."

Shocking, as the Murdoch media now has near zero influence on the Aus public, see recent research from @australiainstitute.org.au 1/3

If you bet on the winner of the Miles Franklin, your windfall is tax free but if you win the Miles Franklin you pay tax. There's an easy and cheap way for the gov to help our best artists and writers. Make prizes tax free.

Something that’s been bothering me lately, mostly in the climate space, is the willingness of would be progressives to adopt language and framing crafted by right wing “think tanks” eg net zero, carbon budgets, offsetting etc..
