been reading a lot of game material recently but the one I've been most surprised by is Cairn 2e by @yochaigal.bsky.social. not only is it just superbly designed and well written, it's also a compelling read, and (this was a complete surprise) funny, erudite, and intelligent.

the context here, to be honest, is that less than two weeks earlier two very important people in that media organisation resigned after an investigation showed an editor had spliced two parts of a Trump speech together to misrepresent it. so this is further capitulation.
there was this very weird article on the Radio 4 news last night where a journalist went to Franco's grave and interviewed people who'd gone there to pay respects with no hint of irony.
doing fluff pieces for dead fascist dictators is kinda a worrying move.

this is probably the most sobering and honest thing i have ever read about the actual practise of game design. for more revealing and humbling thoughts about making games, i do strongly recommend you listen to Hannah and Evan's podcast DESIGN DOC, which can be found wherever podcasts are sold.
After ten years making indie TTRPGs I’ve learned that you don’t have to make *good* games to succeed. It is enough to make *okay* games with humility and regularly scheduled Kickstarter updates.

i am doing a playthrough of @annablackwell.bsky.social and @stoutstoat.co.uk's APAWTHECARIA, and honestly it's extremely charming. there are things about this game that i didn't get on first reading, and that come out only in play. and i have also realised that this is only my first playthrough!
