Senator Curtis, Trump’s instincts are war crimes. See the Nazi displacement of Jewish populations or closer to home the “Trail of Tears.”
Rule 129.
A. Parties to an international armed conflict may not deport or forcibly transfer the civilian population of an occupied territory, in whole or in part, unless the security of the civilians involved or imperative military reasons so demand.
B. Parties to a non-international armed conflict may not order the displacement of the civilian population, in whole or in part, for reasons related to the conflict, unless the security of the civilians involved or imperative military reasons so demand.

Curtis, who is my senator, doesn’t believe this. He says it because to say otherwise in the Republican Party is to speak heresy, and Curtis values orthodoxy over duty.

Presumably, LDS and Atheists have the highest and lowest percentages for being a parent or guardian of any children under the age of 18.
Graph with caption: Are you the parent or guardian of any children under the age of 18?
Showing only LDS and Atheist responses by age. LDS have more children in every age cohort than atheists. Presumably these are the highest and lowest of the groups surveyed

Trump promised free plane tickets and $1,000 “exit bonuses” to immigrants who opted to self-deport.

ProPublica spoke to a dozen Venezuelan immigrants who said they followed the president’s instructions, yet never received the promised assistance.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Growing up in a patriarchal, top-down religion, I came to realize those who claimed to know what was on God’s mind…

Didn’t.

The most dangerous form of government is theocracy.

Because the only thing worse than a tyrant is a tyrant who thinks they're on a mission from God.

The most significant change shown in Burge’s post is his observation that white Christians are a much smaller part of the population in 2024 than 2008 - so much so that fewer white Christians voted for Trump than McCain despite the higher rate for Trump.
Ryan Burge

In 2008, about 59% of all American adults were white Christians.
In 2024, that percentage was about 47%.
In 2008, 66% of white Christians voted for John McCain.
In 2024, 76% voted for Donald Trump.

Tevye nailed the sentiment.
Fiddler on the Roof lyrics from If I Were A Rich Man
The most important men in town would come to fawn on me!
They would ask me to advise them like a Solomon the Wise
"If you please, Reb Tevye...
"Pardon me, Reb Tevye..."
Posing problems that would cross a rabbi's eyes!
And it won't make one bit of difference if I answer right or wrong
When you're rich, they think you really know!

The Daily is committed to sanitizing Vought and ignoring what they regard as unsavory ideology. Because engaging with what is actually animating Vought would make it very hard to uphold the “normal politics” framework that defines much of mainstream political journalism.

I have a much better appreciation of Native American beliefs that way.

So different framing I guess - I’m learning to embrace uncertainty instead of the false certainty I had with Christianity.

I now have a different understanding of how those experiences are generated. Also, my additional study into genetics/evolution has opened me up to appreciate nature in a way I never did as a Christian where “mankind is the apex.” We aren’t, we’ve all evolved together.

For me, I was a very “spiritual” person when a believing LDS. When I determined the LDS truth claims were not what they claimed to be it was like my spiritual switch was turned off. I’ve not had a desire to pursue spirituality since. That said, I’ve never argued people don’t have those experiences.

Collateral damage. Not many Bible thumpers who love to critique Mormons stick around following me because 1) I point out their views don't hold up to scrutiny either 2) I point out if they successfully de-convert a Mormon they likely will have created an atheist.

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.

In Chicago, four vehicles descended and eight ICE agents moved in to kidnap a child.

She screams, “I’m 15,” as ICE yanks her from the car and kneels on her neck.

This is not about immigration enforcement.

It's about terrorizing Americans.
