I finally realized I have the plan of salvation too deeply embedded in my brain's hardwiring. "Nothing after this" is tied directly to "this has no purpose. Life and death are equal" in my brain, and that's NOT a good place to be. I can't seem to rewire it, I choose to believe otherwise.

Absolutely. I tried on atheism, but the idea of death being the end sent me into unhealthy nihilism that I couldn't shake. I landed on agnostic, with "After this, More" as my only credo, and secular Buddhism gave me the clarity to see that as a story I tell myself for my mental health.

Maybe, but my conviction relied on "the spirit". Once I realized that concept was made up... there was no reliable way I could see to confirm spiritual truth--therefore it's all just guessing. I feel no desire to live my life based on someone else's guess, even if a lot of people like it.

An older car is a constant-effort project of love. It's either broken, or on its way to breaking. Multiple old cars means one is always broken. So my car policy is one 4wd, one zippy, and one of the two must be newer and reliable. the other can be an old project.

I have found that the only effective way to get thru to members is to use properly Mormon-coded language. They have a much harder time othering you when you sound like a testimony meeting.

My standard response to this nonsense has been pretty successful in shutting down conversation. "Are you saying the veil is so thick between the Lord and His anointed prophet, that over 40 years Brigham couldn't hear the simple message that slavery and racism is wrong?"

Duuuude a low country boil is the BEST. I got introduced to it by some "good ol' boys" back in my YM leader days. We'd make it at camp and pour it out on newspapers with some sticks of butter tossed on the table as well. Heaven for an outdoor dinner on a muggy night. Your's looks fantastic.
