Just Published!

Domestic life told in snippets of poetry lightly held, an affirmation of the wonder and pleasure of everyday life. It's the book of sentences!

If you heard @katebeaton.bsky.social‬ on CBC Ideas, about 1/3 of her talk was cut for time. Read the whole thing in BODIES OF ART, BODIES OF LABOUR. She shows how we are richer as a culture to have art from people in all classes in our society.

Happy pub day! The World After Rain. Canisia Lubrin.
FROM THE AUTHOR OF CODE NOIR
THE
WORLD
AFTER
RAIN
CANISIA LUBRIN "How incandescent the language is, each line emitting light through the membrane of time and anticipated grief.
The work has a rigorousness, the poet pushing through the ache of experience from the first to the last word." DIONNE BRAND

On Spec has long deserved recognition for best semiprozine at the Hugo Awards, but has never even made the ballot because it's Canadian and most Hugo voters are U.S.-based.

2026 will be your final opportunity to nominate an institution that has been an incubator for so much talent.

With our new issue, we are making the sad announcement that this will be the final year for On Spec. See www.onspec.ca for details.

Historically and still today, most great literature is self-published (“vanity”) or published by someone’s friend or a small press. You shouldn’t limit your reading to large presses b/c that’s not where stuff really “happens.”

This is one of my favorite @premeemohamed.com stories. I'd especially recommend it to readers who are looking for something seasonal but not terrifying - this is one of those ghost stories that's more thoughtful and bittersweet in tone.
premeemohamed.com
Anyway I keep forgetting to yell about this book when it is 🍂seasonal 🍂 but THE APPLE-TREE THRONE (a little vanity project I self-pubbed in 2018) is also available on Kobo and in audio!

A young soldier returned from war is haunted by the ghost of his commanding officer (a posh git)

Dear author who's deleting, rewriting, and inserting whole sentences during the proofreading stage:

If you wanted the text to say something completely different, why didn't you write it that way the first time?

Thank you @paulpearson.ca for your thoughtful read of Attic Rain! I’m grateful that folks are connecting with my words ❤️📚 And as a giant TBR pile girlie, I totally sympathize with the sometimes geologic time that passes between book purchase and book reading. 😂 We get there when we get there!
