The reason I wish more creators could be more open about having other means of floating a career is not to shame or out them -- I mean, ffs there's no sin in having a spouse with a good job, a trust fund, supportive family, etc -- but to help young creatives understand the playing field better. the contempt nft/ai bros have for artists is staggering for how actively acidic it feels. as though they have this envious grudge of people who can create and add to the world, so there's glee at the idea of taking art away from its makers

the plagiarism is not an oversight, it's entirely the point

The "starving artist" myth is one promoted by people in power to romanticize the forced austerity of artists and writers -- meaning, to convince creators that being paid less than they are worth is simply part of the expected narrative when it shouldn't be. (See also: the WGA strike.)

The biggest enabler for creativity is stability. I wish that was made more central to the creative narrative. Figure out what your specific needs are to limit stressors and enable "boring" time and work to achieve that as hard as you're practicing your art.

I came across an outdated guide on image grid sizing crop/proportions for bsky earlier, and I felt it was important to create an updated version! Please use this new guide instead!

Up-to-date BlueSky Crop Aspect Ratio
Crop Sizes for Bluesky as of 18 Oct 2024

By default, single images are uncropped. If image is too tall (Exceeds the 1:2 aspect ratio) then it will be cropped. Single images that are too tall may be scaled down but aspect ratio is preserved

With two images, both of them share a square aspect ratio of 1:1

For three images, the first image is square (1:1) while the other two are half-squares (2:1)

And for 4 images, all of them are 3:2

Thought I'd do some mini reviews of my favourite Shortbox comics.

First is "In Fair Verona" by Val Wise. Can't get too into it without spoilers, but some of the images Val comes up with to show how the lines between the two main girls start to blur are STUNNING, especially towards the end.

today's coworker had kindergarteners watch 15 minutes of kingdom hearts cutscenes bc she typed in "toy story 3 full movie". she cleaned the entire classroom with no reaction to sora being on the tv and only switched it once she was done. which was also right after the word 'xehanort' was said
