I told him that I was born in Russia and was a writer. He showed me a list he’d written of his favourite desserts in the city. It was a sober hobby he’d started during the pandemic, going to restaurants by himself, sampling sweets. He made a lot of lists, he said, most of them food-related. I asked what other kinds he made.

“Lists of lies liberal white women tell about Donald Trump,” he replied.

Suddenly, his leg was shaking. He grabbed the edges of the table and raised his voice: “White, liberal women are a plague on our society.”

He proceeded to drink 11 iced coffees.

Same with Kairi tbh, in spite of everything she does get some good moments here and there, her turning Sora back from being a heartless and the end of KH1 are strong.
The avengers stinger of DDD for her having a 6 year wait into no pay off hurt her a fair bit though.

Good moments one of the most important things imo, you can have characters without that mich breadth or depth, but if you give them good moments they can hit hard.
It's part of why people crave character arcs and growth, it leads to more of those.
Yozora gets some really good ones.

I would also say Yozora is in a very strange space because if you just take what we get on screen about him, he's just surface level cool.
But he also clearly has stuff that alludes to VSXIII Noct ie. Being able to see death people.
So people can kinda superimpose what they know of VS onto him.

Well there's also this element, much like in shonen, in which important character driven moments are tied to fights, so fighting good generally leads to strong character moments, whereas being weak makes you kind of irrelevant moving foward.
