Dick Cheney, who invaded Iraq in 1991, became CEO of Halliburton, and invaded Iraq in 2003 after lying to the Security Council, will be remembered for supporting the CIA torture programme and the NSA surveillance programme. May he never find rest. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Absolutely amazing: they've got so much solar in Australia that they need more people to use more of it, so the gov't has instructed energy retailers to offer *at least three hours of free power* during the middle of the day.

Meanwhile fossil-addled US struggles with an energy-price crisis ...
Energy retailers to be directed to offer free power three hours a day
Saying there is enough solar power for everyone in the daytime, Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen will direct retailers to provide three hours of free power every day to consumers.

Just because I see some folks freaked out in the replies, it's worth pointing out that this comment was a joke posted by the comedian/musician/artist Rare Witch who does those brilliant satirical animations. It's from a few years ago and definitely not a real story.

They doused petrol on a building housing of refugee families and set it alight. They were trying to burn these people out, if not actually burn them alive. It was a pogrom. It's important we identify it properly

And the government is encouraging the politics behind this. It'll happen again
An investigation into an arson attack at an IPAS centre in Drogheda is continuing, after gardaí confirmed a fire had been deliberately started in the building on Friday night.

Imagine being from a working class community, saying you give a voice to ordinary people, but support pulling down union posters outside leisure centres calling for fair pay.
Fucking shills for the billionaire class.
While men want us to talk about the 'male loneliness epidemic' convinced they are the primary victims of their inability to treat women like actual human beings, the reality is that they will never voluntarily account for the pain they cause. Women are no longer keeping their secrets and I love it.
I savoured every second of my first listen to West End Girl by #LilyAllen because the world is full of men like Harbour and women telling on them is utterly delicious. The way that a generation of women have found their voices through art and podcasts and friendship gives me pure feminist joy ✊♥️

Saying that it's "too hard" to get on the Irish president ballot when an independent woman got the entire Irish left to back her, got the biggest vote ever and beat two historically dominant parties is not just wrong - it is breathtakingly offensive and outrageously dishonest.

Be warned, the messages detailed in this article are absolutely vile.

If you are a non-Irish news outlet reporting that Ireland has a new left-wing President that's fine, but you need to also report that this is nothing new for Ireland and is in fact just the type of president we've been going for the last few rounds

An Irish Book I discovered at a bookshop event.

I picked up #TheGhostLimb by @clairemitchell.bsky.social at the #DromoreBookFestival - organised by the legendary @bridgebooksdromore.bsky.social. Claire was joined onstage by @lindaervine.bsky.social that night.

UNISON walkout after Belfast conference venue bans Palestine image

General secretary Christina McAnea and UNISON Northern Ireland secretary Patricia McKeown lead members in a demonstration outside ICC Belfast convention centre after Palestine image is banned by venue.

“We will not allow political vetting of our union’s policy of supporting Palestine. How can this image be offensive when it is simply stating the policy of the United Nations, the ICJ and Belfast City Council, which owns the venue” said Christina McAnea.

Breaking news: Unbelievably, the ICC conference centre has tried to censor content relating to Palestine at @unisonni.bsky.social Regional Council meeting, specifically the use of the word genocide. We have obviously walked out.

The Established Church needs to find a voice on this kind of dehumanising depiction of men, women and children who have come to our country, being spilled all over the place to say the only thing that has human value is a salary above £38k and thst any foreigner who ever earns less must get out

Are some anti-trans people trans in denial? Maybe, but, like saying homophobes are all just secretly closested gay people, you are once again blaming a minority for their own oppression if you think this is standard.

The overwhelming majority of transphobes are cis people. Focus on them.

Important subtext: Hard to oversell how rare this precise Christian coalition is, and how unusually defiant this letter they're signing is.
NEW: 200+ Chicago-area clergy — Protestants, Catholics, and evangelicals — have signed a letter decrying ICE's efforts and voicing a willingness to put their "bodies on the line" for migrants.

"What Kristi Noem and her ICE agents are doing is immoral," they write. religionnews.com/2025/10/21/a...

The key thing that the Greens have to do now is emphasise the necessity of grassroots organising and community building, which in my experience they are pretty good at. Time to be the change you want to see 💚
As a card carrying Green I love the influx of new members but it also makes me extremely nervous because I think it suggests ppl are looking for a saviour, desperate for someone inspiring who will fix everything rather than understanding that we all have to do it together.
4000 people have joined the Green Party today alone.

And we're close to breaking the target for the most in one day!
