I make a fake-history (OR IS IT?) webcomic called The Kraken Busters, about the US' struggle with sea monsters after World War 2. It's drawn to look sort of like Bill Mauldin illustrating a Ken Burns show. It rules, I promise you.

Do you have room in your heart for a great big chonky cat?

This big boi is Frogger. He's so soft, cuddly and chatty.

He's looking for his forever home and will be available for adoption later this month in North Saint Paul at Caring for Cats.
A woman holds a very fluffy, large tabby cat with a white belly, face, and legs, the cat is as large as the woman's upper body A gorgeous large tabby cat white legs, face and belly lays on the ground looking chunky and perfect. Frogger is written on the photo.

Tumblr is our great library of Alexandria. May we never lose it
Elf cooking show: First person helmetcam of a an elf hunting and killing a deer with their bare hands.
They sing a lullabye to the deer before they snap it's neck and prepare a side salad.
Dwarf cooking show: America's Test Kitchen but even more rigorous. 20 minutes of discussing how to maintain precise heat just to boil water.
Halfling cooking show: Great British Bake Off with soap-opera levels of internal drama. Everyone is stoned off their ass.
Orc cooking show: Edible mythbusters. The contestants must make bbq with a live dragon.
People straight up die sometimes.
Goblin cooking show: Goblins don't really understand the concept of restaurants, but they have a show like Diners Dive ins and Dives for rooting through people's trash.

Time for some 3-D Fun Pix of our quick Wisconsin trip.
You'll need red/blue glasses to see the stereo images.

Taken with a regular camera with two exposures offset left to right. Color separations, removing the red and green/blue channels of the separate images is done in Photoshop. #birds

I think when I first saw it, early 20s, my main takeaway was “people think it’s awesome when you’re aggressively neurotic”

broke the house’s very long embargo on Allen and watched Annie Hall; this is of course me projecting 2025 onto 1977, but it’s impossible for me not to read that movie as the tale of a cool woman outgrowing an asshole

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

It’s probably mean to keep dragging this piece but

a) the P-51 was a design 4 years in the making

b) The notion that the US avoided extraordinarily costly defense projects with massive cost overruns is disproven by the B-29, which cost more to develop and produce than the Manhattan Project

I need to write about this, but I've been telling people that one reason I still feel somewhat optimistic about the future is that, as a high school teacher, I get a good ground-floor view of just how cooked these monsters are. In terms of preventing cultural changes, they've already lost. 1/

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.
