Just a reminder that if you want to follow me in #Japan (and see the full breadth of the content), I'm posting it all to Instagram (with captions). You can find it all on my profile

I'm also using the tag #kaveyeatsjapan25 but that shows everything all out of order!

I have eaten too much meat. That plus alcohol on top of my codeine for pain just before we went out for dinner. I shall go and sleep it all off for the next 12 hours. 😁

We had mostly meat (wagyu kalbi, pork belly and lamb don't know the cut) and some cabbage and onion. And beers and umeshu on the rocks.

Chicken thighs plus green beans one of my favourite combos for Thai curries!

Great day in Matsumoto today which included two cafes and two restaurants that were friendly, *welcoming*, delicious...

Fell in love with these lamps in a retro diner we went to for lunch.

@werkoderko.bsky.social I hadn't even seen them when we chose it and went in!
Orange brown pottery lamp hanging from a ceiling, it flares at the bottom and had holes punched out in bands around it. You can see the top of the bar area behind with wine glasses hanging.

Ha well they can't afford to be introspective and look at their own behaviour. They'd be too mortified.

When someone offers you their seat on a packed tube, and you don’t want it, it’s generally considered polite to say “no thank you” rather than act like your masculinity has been grossly insulted, you miserable old git

Interestingly, this trick also works with the passive voice in phrases that people don't usually complain about, like "that said".

It works better if you revert it to "that being said (by zombies)", but "that said by zombies" also works

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

I was today years old when I learned that in Spanish "baking powder" is impulsador. Cubans call it "polvos Royal" (Royal powder) because that was the brand name sold in Cuba before the revolution.

I don't mean those who couldn't afford to buy at that time, obviously... I mean those who genuinely loved the idea of renting and hated the idea of being "grown up" enough to have a mortgage!🤣

We bought in 1994 and several of our contemporaries kept asking why we wanted to be tied down and what if we wanted to move into a different area. Prices went up so much just in the next few years that when they wanted to "settle down" it was already more than double.

Gert lush matcha latte after visiting the castle. Neither of us went in because sooner if the steps in the stairs are 3 times a regular step height, plus my hip is fucked, and Pete's too damn tall really. 😁
