Just for giggles, I wrote my MAGA congressman asking him to explain why he's fighting the ACA subsidies that make healthcare possible for me. Instead of his usual Trumpy bullshit, his response was "I'm hearing a lot of this, I'll get back to you." Hmmm. Maybe they are getting worried?
if only MSM would write ledes like this.
this motherfucker is shitting on americans and knocking out the white house walls
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

I cannot think of a more on the nose analogy for what this regime is doing to the governance of this country than this.

If you've got a Ring camera, it's time to rethink those choices.
Amazon’s Ring is partnering with Flock

• A network of AI-powered cameras used by ICE, federal agencies, and police

• Authorities can request users to share footage to assist with 'evidence collection and investigative work'

Oh yes, I shared this too!
Also great thread today by ‪@thomaszimmer.bsky.social‬
Great thread, explaining why The No Kings protests, tho symbolic, mattered, perhaps especially in changing the perspective that they are the real normie America and we are a small band of unpatriotic weirdos.
America As No-Longer-Democracy and Not-Yet-Dictatorship

Where does the country stand after the largest day of protest in U.S. history? Putting “No Kings” in perspective.

Some thoughts from my new piece:

THIS.
Paid TSA Precheck should not exist. If the government is going to use public security as the pretext for something intrusive (or even inconvenient), you should not be able to buy your way out of it. The burden should fall equally on everyone
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

We long contended the anti-zoning code lawsuit was a bad faith undermining of democratic processes. We believed the plaintiffs had little interest in transportation management and an almost hysterical fear of modest change in their neighborhoods. Now their allies are publicly saying the same thing.
“A six-plex could be coming to a neighborhood near you.”

Scary!!!!

The NYTimes was not able to rule out the possibility that Donald Trump was actually filmed wearing a crown and flying a jet that doused Americans with diarrhea.
"Brown liquid" ftw. I thought they'd at least acknowledge the consistency. I also love the "appeared to be AI." I think it's pretty safe to conclude he didn't have the whizzes at Industrial Light and Magic whip that up for him.

Exactly. We study protest & social movement in performance studies for this reason. Protest is performance. Parades are performance. Whether it’s a military parade performing might to elicit intimidation, or an anti-authoritarian rally performing resistance in the face of fear, it’s all effective.

Yes but also that happens anyway, and it’s potentially useful to have “the right way to protest” including wearing costumes and masks and writing edgy jokes on signs.

Just be careful because it leads to “the right way to protest” nonsense.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Compare yesterday's millions to this and how we couldn't escape breathless coverage of the Tea Partiers at their peak.

It’s a beautiful day to protest fascism.
okay and they do have this picture on their website so I am convinced they are not a protestant front.
I, a lapsed Catholic, just learned that this plain methodist-looking building is actually my town's central *Catholic* church and I am shook. What have they done with the Marys? Where the sparkly bits at?
These are the people we are supposed to debate and invite into schools and treat with civility because Free Speech and civility and who gets to decide what "hate speech" is anyway blah blah blah
