For people who love weird short stories—Did you know the incredible Lackington's archive is still online? You should read it now while we still have an internet lackingtons.com

It's gonna be a day of finishing things. I will finish weeding the walkway. I will finish the basement organizing (not all of it, just the part I've been working on). I will finish marking Assignment 1. I will finish the pitches for a thing. I will ... not finish the novel, but maybe the chapter.

They deleted, which is good, but here’s the account. Treat every one of those accounts claiming to be affiliated with the “Anonymous” hacking group with suspicion.

I see fake shit from those accounts all the time, even when they’re presented as being pro-freedom.

It being a Sunday, there's no update today. Things are quiet as usual. But we do want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has got us over the £3000 mark. Everyone else, why not click the link and find out more. www.kickstarter.com/...
The cover of They Are Still Here (Mae Nhw Yma O Hyd).

The image is of the sorceror, Gwydion, surrounded by wild animals (wolf, boar, deer) in a Celtic knotwork frame. Gwydion's hat is crowned with antlers. He carries an axe in his right hand and an oak twig in his left.

Art by Josh Arklin.

Mr Laos

Mr Laos. Just when you though this year was a bit quiet on the insanely huge, bedazzled, symbolic costumes along comes Mr Laos and blows everyone else out of the water. This is insane, but it's also *so* good.

I would like a fantasy novel about this guy with his tree wings, also featuring Mr Laos please
bevismusson.bsky.social
And last but definitely not least, it's Mr Vietnam who has managed to combine the traditional and beautiful look with wearing a tree on his back, which is something that I very much appreciate (especially in a year with a very low level of insanely large looks)

I think I have said this here before but one of the many things about this campaign that gives me hope is the focus on history. Also, behold the absolute demolishing of any notion that trans rights and the rights of the working class are somehow opposed or even distinct.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I'll be making this vegetarian stuffing tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Started making it last year for holidays and it quickly became everyone's favourite.
The Best Vegetarian Stuffing Ever
I've been perfecting this stuffing recipe for about 15 years.

The answer they deserve (but good for you.)

Yeah, I kept thinking "they're going to have an AI scan this and toss everything that looks skeptical" but we do what we can.

Yeah, I tried as much as possible to answer in their kind of language and to talk about the dangers of the bubble and the benefits to the country of investing in human skills. I was getting pretty testy by the end.

I will forever find the idea that you can't find equally qualified (maybe even more qualified) people for half the price in pretty much any of these positions, such as CEOs for state agencies, university presidents, etc. etc. etc., to be total bullshit. Overpaid and unjustifiably so.

Government survey: How can we support AI champions to own the podium? What barriers exist to uptake of AI in all areas of the economy across all regions?

Me: I strongly believe these questions are an insult to life itself

The issue is just funding and resources. That's it.

Really the same as in education.

You have to pay for it, and then it works wonderfully.

There are many problems in Ontario health care, but today I got a same-day urgent care slot for the kid, in our town (which has been recruiting doctors). We were in and out in 10 mins, prescription in hand, no thought about money or insurance for the visit of course. Things can work. (The kid is ok)
kateheartfield.com
It is in some people's interest to portray health care as this unsolvable problem, and sure, some elements are complex, but fundamentally when you hire enough staff and buy enough equipment you are able to treat patients in a humane, equitable and effective way within a public system. Lo and behold.

I like the colour coded easy to move chapters in my binder, notes field, and research all where I can see it.

Yes! Forget sweater season, we are entering Inflatable Frog Season
kateheartfield.com
As for downsides, what stopped me from getting one for the Tesla Takedowns this summer is that I've seen a kid emerge from an inflatable dino at Halloween dripping with sweat. At 48, I'm already ALWAYS HOT. Maybe some have better air flow than others? Features to consider if you're shopping today!
kateheartfield.com
Another upside of the inflatable costume: it creates a barrier against the "I'm not touching you" variety of reactionary asshole who walks around protests sticking phones in people's faces to film an inch from their noses (a familiar scourge in Ottawa). And might help with de-escalation in general.

I’m not kidding when I say these weird ass costumes and antics are actually an extremely effective tactic from a media standpoint bc when enough people do them, the media can’t fully scrub them out

In case you missed it earlier, GoH Kate Heartfield has also created a Can*Con 2025 Starter Pack so you can get inextricably linked with all your favourite Can*Con minds and gestalt consciousnesses!

Speaking of @canconsffh.bsky.social , last year's starter pack for panelists, vendors and volunteeers was popular, so I made a new one for this year. Please tell me if you're on programming or helping out with Can*Con this year and would like to be added, or if you'd like to be removed.
