Is it a choice if it’s not free? I mean, dude has commitment to slogans so I guess choice “had” to be qualified to make it work

So glad I took the time to write this explainer last year because Poilievre adores saying the Nazis = socialists #cdnpoli thetyee.ca/News/2024/11...

Why don’t we just paint everything neon: People, clothes, pets, poles, buildings, trees , lakes, rocks, every goddamn inch of this planet neon.

Hey Marylanders! Darker evenings don’t mean more danger on our roads. Just a little extra caution — bright clothes, headlights on — can make a huge difference.

Let’s keep each other safe. Be the difference!

This map is bonkers. Utterly bonkers

We heard from many groups today about the Tewin development. This is unfortunately going to be a development that further entrenches us into unsustainable sprawl.

Property taxes have not and will not be able to provide long-term support for these types of developments. We have decades of evidence.

Solid, solid writing here from @thebeaverton.com!
"Poilievre, who was only able to gain access to the House of Commons by winning the electoral equivalent of a child’s T-Ball game, claims that 'DEI should be dismantled and meritocracy should be restored. Sign here if you agree.'”
“Restore merit, end DEI” says man who could only get elected in Canada’s safest Conservative stronghold
OTTAWA - Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has launched a petition to "end DEI programs and restore merit", just months after losing his own heavily-favoured seat before running in an even more hea...

Some translation is required.

“Came out of nowhere = was going too fast”

Unless transportation departments are going to fund bright clothing for its residents, this is marketing to spend marketing dollars

It’s incredible. A monument of 20th century waste

If you listened to the #ottawa committee meeting today, you will 100% hear over and over that, well it’s not a “done” deal but sunk costs.

Sunk costs, sunk costs, sunk costs…

The people who want the city to be run like a business can’t even get past sunk costs.
pykey.bsky.social
And their outright lies about "sunk costs"

How often in Landsdowne 2.0 consultations were we told this was just an early step and there were still more votes ahead

Now, when those votes come up, those same people fall back on the sunk costs argument to ensure it moves forward

Makes me so crazy and wild to watch over time

#canada has options. If we’re actually in a “war time” effort, which more and more it seems we are more in a “do nothing and ride the vibes” stance, but if we were we would be getting every public vehicle manufacturer to set up shop here #cdnpoli

And the expense is based on a percentage of income NOT a set fee.

Menard just let loose on them for their BS, I think probably around 2:10pm if you go back in the video.

PS personal plug, here's the overview of my presentation:

I'm presenting a delegation. Two Anishinabe Algonquin Chiefs have already presented.

The idea that the housing crisis and the need to just build build build without a sober second thought and a revision of how fucking horrid the last city council was isn’t warranted is incredible. I get that most people in Ottawa don’t care or pay attention but having a council that relies on this?
justmeinottawa.bsky.social
’m glad @shawnmenard.bsky.social finally said what had to be said here.

This mayor and council set a nice trip wire at the beginning of this council session that, hey we just all need to get along and pretend that Jim Watson wasn’t mayor for 12 yrs supported by a cadre of the same folks
justmeinottawa.bsky.social
Ya no. This city is addicted to the sunk cost fallacy. If #ottawa city councillors are going to continually talk about the “housing crisis” then why do we have a fucking urban boundary at all? Why?
Tewin is not going to be affordable. It’s not going to be connected to transit. Shit this is pathetic
justmeinottawa.bsky.social
Holy smokes this Tewin bullshit is a mess…

It’s easy to say this is just the garbage of Jim Watsons legacy but there are many members of the planning and housing committee still here today that made this shit possible in 2021. It’s pathetic
justmeinottawa.bsky.social
City councillors rely on not enough people paying attention to see how the processes time and time again are the same. The same with this stupid hospital and a fucking parking garage. The same thing you’re hearing today will be said verbatim about Lansdowne #ottawa

Yes, it would really help. The divide between the rich and the poor is the cancer that's eating all western societies.

🇫🇷 France's Socialists set their sights on including a tax on billionaires in the 2026 budget after winning a major concession on pension reform from Prime Minister Lecornu. But can a tax on the super-rich help? Find out on Reuters Econ World podcast reut.rs/4ofTyDy

Oh as a city councillor you get push back because of intensification plans? Really? And your job is to be a mouth piece or to be a leader and explain the hard realities of living in a fucking city? Which is it? Holy shit this is pathetic and sad
justmeinottawa.bsky.social
Yes people want their cake and to eat it to. For sure you can live in your little home with front and back yards and you will have to fucking pay to do it. If you don’t want density. Great. Then you pay the property taxes that would be paid if a baseline of density is appropriate. You can have it
justmeinottawa.bsky.social
What an utter indictment of what a city councilor is vs what they should be, with a councillor asking “well don’t you think we should be a city that allows single family homes too cuz that’s what people want…”

Are you serious? This whole city is just SFHs. Single family homes and towers. That’s it
