Well, appeals go to the NTSB's Administrative Law Judges, so eventually they have the final say. But don't expect much daylight to exist betwixt them and the FAA.

Aye, you start logging PIC time when you first begin moving for the purpose of flight. I don't think the FAA will call this one a gray area.

Somehow I don’t think the FAA would be amused by an attempt to split-second time the takeoff for exactly an hour after sunset. 😛

I'd say no because you're acting as pilot in command of the plane while taxiing, but you're not night current until you've taken off.

I rarely get started on x/c flights >1h after sunset, but I often land so at the end of them. So I've frequently found myself OK on landings but sometimes with even 0 legal night takeoffs. 😐

The first rule of Overthinkers Club is to come up with a list of every possibly applicable rule, conduct research to weight them by perceived importance across a range of demographics, and then vet them for marketability as memorable tag phrases.
