Heartbreaking: Neo-soul legends Angie Stone and D’Angelo both passed away in 2025, just 7 months apart. Stone died in March at 63. D’Angelo died today at 51. They shared a son together. An entire generation’s soundtrack, gone. Rest in power to both 🕊️💔

Taking a swipe at the white gamer bros who support the Republican party is an interesting choice.

But, while we're here, Medicaid is intened for people who CAN'T AFFORD PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE. What you do, or don't do, SHOULDN'T MATTER when it comes to getting health care.

Mike Johnson says Medicaid is "intended for vulnerable populations, the elderly, disabled, and young pregnant women, and not young able-bodied men without dependents who are playing video games."

Make no mistake, the overinflated fear of crime that many white people have is rooted in racism. That's what makes it such a useful tool for conservatives. They can always whip up white anxieties about Black criminality, even when crime rates are falling, as they have been in general.

Bc they didn’t want to pay him. Devers benefited from that mistake but Boston has paid for it ever since.

"The American founders expected better leaders than Johnson. They thought Congress would check the president. They didn’t think one branch would surrender completely to another."

This is the whole ballgame, folks.

The authoritarianism will continue until coequal branches decide it will not.

If you put your ear against the Capitol, you can hear the sound of a man who will do nothing to challenge—and anything to justify—presidential violations of the Constitution, as long as the president is of his own party. www.thebulwark.com/p/speaker-mi...

"I often complain about the syndrome known as 'both-sidesing' — in which unequal sides are given equal treatment in the press. But this failure of coverage is worse than that." - @sulliview.bsky.social bluevirginia.us/2025/10/tues...
Margaret Sullivan: "The media is largely ignoring the trauma of millions. Here's why."

"What’s the reason for this silence? As usual, I believe, it’s the mainstream media’s fear of appearing to sympathize or identify with those who oppose Trump. I often complain about the syndrome known as “both-sidesing” — in which unequal sides are given equal treatment in the press. But this failure of coverage is worse than that."'

I think the main barrier to honest, direct coverage from the mainstream media in Trump 1.0 was professional norms/reflexive both sides-ism. In 2.0, that's still a factor, but a bigger barrier may be ownership. Reporters/editors know that many media owners are wary of too much anti-Trump coverage.

The Katie Porter viral videos do show someone with deficient interpersonal skills at best. But let's be honest about why the pile-on is happening: the political establishment in California wants to tempt Alex Padilla into the race by smearing his top opponent.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!

The University of Texas-Austin is beginning a process to eliminate the Black Studies, Latino Studies, and Gender Studies departments in the College of Liberal Arts. This is a grave threat to the educational liberty of students, faculty, staff, and the people of Texas. 1/

Among the most hideous & ubiquitous historical fables taught in this country are about the “discovery” of America and the “settling” of North America by pioneers. But there’s even more.

This Indigenous People’s Day,decide to learn.Ned Blackhawk & @rebeccanagle.bsky.social’s works are extraordinary.

This by the way sheds light on the question I hear from people, "If ICE smashes its way into my car and then discovers they screwed up and I'm a citizen after all, will they pay for the broken windshield and tear gassed upholstery?" No, they won't.

If y'all wanted to protest her, y'all should have elected her

Stop blaming Kamala, she didn't tank the economy and send stormtroopers into US cities

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

Many Gen-Zers “bring a new attitude to the combination of faith and politics, and many see politics as a matter of spiritual warfare,” writes Daniel K. Williams, a historian of American religion and politics.
