Was man nicht kennt macht Angst. Es gibt z.B. Studien dazu, dass die Einstellung gegenüber Windenergie in den Regionen am positivsten ist, die schon viele Windräder haben. Da wo keine stehen hat man Angst davor.

Weltweit explodiert geradezu der Bau von #Batteriespeichern, die Preise pro Batterie fallen immer weiter. Aber Gas-Ministerin Reiche setzt weiter auf Gaskraftwerke.

Teuer, abhängig von den USA, klimaschädlich. Kurzum: einfach rückständig. Wie kann man so naiv sein?

Man überfliegt den Regenwald mit kleinen Flugzeugen oder Drohnen und tastet den Boden mit Laserstrahlen ab. So kann man Muster im Boden entdecken, die einem vor Ort gar nicht auffallen würden. Und auf diese Weise erkennt man eine Vielzahl von Strukturen, die eindeutig künstlich aussehen.

Eine davon ist die breite (zivile&militärische) Wehrhaftigkeit. Dass dafür die Bevölkerung mitmachen muss ist relativ klar. Und in jungen Jahren ist es eben organisatorisch noch einfacher, z.B. für ein halbes Jahr so etwas zu leisten.

Diese Form der Argumentation finde ich problematisch. Das gleiche sagen Putintrolle, wenn man für eine starke Verteidigungsfähigkeit der Ukraine wirbt („dann geh doch selbst dahin und kämpfe“). Genauso wie Klimaschutz Veränderungen braucht, wird eine neue Sicherheitspolitik Veränderungen brauchen.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

A residential parking permit should cost its €42 admin costs (obviously) plus €365 parking fee (surely €1 per day is low?) plus about €400 rent for public space (again, low) in the central parts.

Roughly €800 is a bit closer to the true, economic costs of downtown car ownership in #Berlin.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
