Tonight's antidote to despair was seeing Dynasty Handbag, and watching her do "Wuthering Heights" was the most wonderful thing I have witnessed in ages. Here is a version from 10 years ago. You could probably use it.

Yeah, that's very true. I *think* Friendship was going for an unhinged protagonist in the real world, but it strayed from that for sure. Chair Company is more obviously an absurdist comedy/conspiracy world all the way around, and in that sense it works a bit better

Totally. The thing about Robinson's characters—and this is what makes them genius—is that you can tell within a few seconds of meeting them who they are and what their damage is. They're all signifiers. You don't need to watch them develop. And the plot can only ever be ancillary to the guy

I love Tim Robinson, and I like The Chair Company—which, at its best, feels kind of like Curb Your Enthusiasm for the 40-something suburban conspiracy dad. But I'm starting to suspect longform narrative is not his strong suit.

Having trouble letting go of my anger about my doctor going concierge. Seems like, on top of everything else that's galling about healthcare in this country, we're heading for a system where primary care covered by insurance is as much a mirage as therapy covered by insurance (also unacceptable btw)
