And your point has no relevance to this thread. I would rather not receive a compliment at all than to receive one that is condescending and backhandedly demeaning.

I'm not complaining about having nice friends. My issue is cis people infantilizing trans men.

Tone and context are important. I like compliments from my friends, and I like to give my friends compliments. It feels bad to be talked down to like you're so much younger than you are or like you're someone's pet.

I can't believe I've been titless for a whole year.

even more common than that though is the broader way that cis people will speak to trans men in a way they would absolutely never speak to an equivalent cis man (ie same age, race, social context, etc). usually it’s infantilising, but can also be hyper-critical of how we perform or “chose” manhood.

the last thing we need is more misinformed comments from people who haven’t read what the guidance says (trans men can be banned from male and female spaces), appearance-based bathroom policing, “cis people can pretend to be trans to hurt women”, or total disregard for our safety for ‘gotcha’ points

in the wake of the uk supreme court ruling, any of the variations on “so you want trans men in the women’s bathroom then?”, usually with a photo of a passing trans man attached. it’s meant to be allyship but it’s genuinely doing more harm than good.

Trans guys: What are the most annoying things cis people say to you, regularly?
joriebeez.bsky.social
The one that silently begs me to agree with them so they can safely continue whatever their complaint is while patting themselves on the back for being a Good Ally.

Because the transvestigator brainworms invariably progress from "I never would have guessed!" to looking for The Signs™ and saying "Actually, now that I know, I can see it." And this often goes hand-in-hand with outing trans people as well.
joriebeez.bsky.social
I don't mind people close to me checking in about how I'm feeling/how it's going wrt transitioning (or even asking about being trans in general), but any comments on appearance however well-intentioned that just feed the transvestigator brainworms are an immediate "no" from me.

Also a lot of cis people seem to operate under the idea that the moment you say you're a man you suddenly get access to unqualified male privilege. For example they think that because cis men make more money than cis women, if someone transitions to a man they just automatically make more money
joriebeez.bsky.social
Also when a liberal makes a general "men are trash" comment and then gives The Stare in horror that they now have to choose between misgendering me or saying "not all men."
joriebeez.bsky.social
The infantilization in general, but I specifically hate being called "handsome" in a tone of voice that suggests the cis person is talking to a small child or a pet dog rather than a man in his mid-30s.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

No, WaPo, we are not doing a repeat of creating social pressure for gay people to get straight married, and no, it's not, "redefining what it means to be in a relationship."

Also, could that kiss in the thumbnail be any more awkward?
He’s gay. She’s straight. They’re happily married.
Meet the couples who are redefining what it means to be in a relationship, including those in gay-straight and same-sex platonic marriages.

I got like 4 hours of sleep last night and have not had any caffeine today, so I'm taking a gamble and getting a coffee before my three back-to-back afternoon clients. This will surely not backfire in any way.

(But I have blessedly been heartburn-free for three days, so I'm feeling frisky.)
