This piece pretty much restated my childhood anxiety mantra nearly word for word. (Am I really saved? How do I know for sure? What if I have just been faking the whole time?)

A friend of mine once asked me what the overall “vibe” of evangelicism is, and I told her “fear and anxiety.”

What's on your minds?

As is seasonally appropriate, I've been thinking about death.

B/c I can't help myself I've also been thinking about Christianity's fucked up relationship to death, and the toxic dynamics of hardline faith.

Some Thoughts about Fear, Death, and Christianity
In his Society without God (NYU Press, 2008), sociologist Phil Zuckerman documented the many ways in which the Scandinavian countries--some of the least religious on earth--put highly religious countr...

Yes! I’ve been yelling about this (to my poor roommate) for a while. Companies that are losing money (which I’m not sure there’s true evidence for in the W) are still required to pay their employees. Whether or not the league is making or losing money is not the players’ problem to solve.

People will scoff at virtue signaling and then wonder why today’s billionaires don’t build museums, libraries, hospitals, and universities like Gilded Age ones did.

Since there’s so few obligations in athletic band, they basically gave us cash per diem and let us do what we wanted. We just had to be back at the hotel on time for the games. In Boston, I did the whole Liberty Trail with my friends, and took a day trip to Salem.

Also, not gonna lie, travel is more fun in the athletic band. I got free 5 day trips to Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Boston, and New Orleans the year the men went to the Final Four.

She can do athletic band, and they do the spring game! Also, many people learn to play a brass instrument and then make the band. I was a clarinet player all through high school!

They want to create the (false) perception that autism is preventable and curable, because that allows them to: 1) cut accommodations, services, and support for autistic kids and their families, and 2) blame mothers for autism in ways that make (1) seem justified.

Whether they're blaming vaccines and Tylenol, or selling dubious "remedies," what they're really doing is promoting the perception that families (and especially mothers) can prevent and treat Autism. And thus also the perception that people with Autism and their families don't need social support.

I regret to inform you that in addition to the collapse of Reconstruction and the Red Scare we all need to bone up on how Woodrow Wilson cracked down on journalists and dissenters. We've got you covered, with this piece by Adam Hochschild www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
America’s top censor—so far
Woodrow Wilson’s postmaster put papers out of business and jailed journalists. The tools he used still exist.

Note for anyone who wants to avoid my mistakes: don’t tell your trainer that you feel like your core strength is sub-par because then they will give you many core exercises and you will cry.

Cathy Engelbert's statement in response to Napheesa Collier:
“I have the utmost respect for Napheesa Collier and for all the players in the WNBA. Together we have all worked tirelessly to transform this league. My focus remains on ensuring a bright future for the players and the WNBA, including collaborating on how we continue to elevate the game. I am disheartened by how Napheesa characterized our conversations and league leadership, but even when our perspectives differ, my commitment to the players and to this work will not waver.”

I just gave Carter the first dose of a round of steroids (to help with asthma and inflammation). She is extremely sure that I just tried to kill her. (Photo is not from tonight, she is currently hiding from me).

A lot of folks view their vote as a little gift they give to a politician who catches their fancy, rather than an act of collective action on behalf of the less fortunate. You are not giving out a rose on The Bachelor, you're acting in solidarity with millions of other people.

"we don't owe anybody our vote"

you don't owe *politicians* your support, but you have moral obligations to other people that entail trying to avoid their death or oppression

I was happy they got a playoff win tbh. With the injuries, I figure that’s a fairly successful season, all things considered.
