This was, basically, the corporitization of higher education.

The top administrators ran away with all the money, and the faculty lost any real power to push back on administrative decisions
The groundwork was laid by decades of budget-busting administrative bloat, turning most (upwards of 70% nationwide) teaching faculty into contractors with low pay and no benefits, and state cuts to higher ed.

This is bad, but most of those PhDs wouldn't have gotten tenure-track jobs anyway
Wow. Harvard nuking its PhD programs

- Science PhD admissions reduced by more than 75%
- Arts & Humanities reduced by about 60%
- Social Sciences by 50–70%
- History by 60%
- Biology by 75%
- The German department will lose all PhD seats
- Sociology from six PhD students to zero
He was a Neet before it was cool, failed as an artist because he rarely painted, and believed that the war could be won if the allies "inevitably turned on each other."
Ian Kershaw's biography on him is great because, along with discussing the historiography around Hitler (he takes the view that the system leading to him needs to be analysed) he shows how much of a goddamn loser that man was.
History kinda glosses over that Hitler was a pedophile obsessed with his own niece Geli Raubal who he pretty much kept as a prisoner in his home until she took her own life, or for that matter how young Eva Braun was when they first met.

Nazis were always just like that it seems.
It’s funny how the old media depiction of Nazis was always that they’re evil but dignified gentleman and now they’re openly just like “Hello. I’m the Anime Pedophile”
I sometimes get videos from tattoo artists in my feed.

Nazi symbols being the most removed tattoos have been replaced with the Deathly Hallows symbol from Harry Potter.
nobody had to get an Alice Munro tattoo covered up, unlike the poor Neil Gaiman fans.
every day i grow more grateful that i never succumbed to the millennial cultural zeitgeist around getting tattoos

This is, not coincidentally, the same tactic for how support for everything from bigotry, to rape and pedophilia, to running scams and other forms of manipulation gets normalized in political communities—and in particular in “left-leaning” communities.
Based on convos around the topic, the AI can only act with human input.

This is particularly damning given how AI has been trained to constantly praise the user while pretending to have expertise.
Chud Reed will never recover.
When you delete your account you're forced to read the Necronomicon from cover to cover. Its well documented.

You have to be willing to walk away from these guys if they let you down, just as a matter of basic self respect. It's not a fandom. You're hiring them to do a job or not.
I liked the Platner ads too but I think there's a difference between "guy who had some bad reddit posts a decade ago" and "ex-Blackwater merc who still has a Nazi tattoo." Sucks bigtime that he's the only one taking positions and talking policy I like, but them's the breaks!

rather notably the jump is in 2022, the year we let the world's largest social media site fall into the hands of a Nazi.
Canadian public opinion about immigration: the most notable change over the past year is how immigration continues to grow as a polarized issue dividing Canadians across political party lines.
She's not enraged by the fact that people hope on the internet and destroy the lives of others and themselves. She's pissed that her wing of stupidity doesn't have a monopoly.

She's no different to a Jones or a Pool. She just evokes class analysis every second broadcast.
It's worth remembering that Emma came from TYT, the centrepiece of left-wing cranks on the internet.

She hates these discussions because they cut into her bottom line and her ability to say "I'm someone of importance."
If people affiliated with the campaign have to fall back on stuff like this in October in the year prior to the election, you're toast, pack it in.
It's a strange experience growing out of that mindset and meeting people who didn't.

It's like you've traveled back in time but you both look older.

the other thing i’ll say here is i am a bit frustrated with the narrative of online radicalization that treats it as akin to brainwashing. it lets individuals, families and communities off the hook for the choices they make and the environments they foster
this also drives me insane, this idea that it is the most normal thing in the world for a young (white) man to have a nazi curious phase. it isn’t!
Real talk, you can tell that Disco Elysium was written by leftists because it accurately portrays (and lampoons) the shades of leftists.

I'm thinking of the article about car racing that uses jargon to essentially say "I hate racing and here's my justification for hating people who do"
It messes with me a little that Stanislaw Lem lived long enough to reject the internet.

good bit from the Guardian review of Giuffre's memoir; I have heard several people from the NGO world express the confusion and embarrassment they felt at billionaires showing up with very young women at events.
Really like it so far. It's well thought out.
30 pages into "The Dispossessed" and I respect Le Guin for accurately portraying a conversation with a chud.

She even included the "How the hell do women tolerate this behaviour?" question one inevitably asks.

Various VTubers report TwitchCon threw out fans’ gifts from Meet & Greets

Ironmouse: “It breaks my heart to know staff threw out all the gifts. I should have known better than to trust them and taken care of everything ahead of time. I am so sorry everyone.”

There's a correlation/causation trap a lot of people fall into when it comes to thinking about the PRC because their aggressive censorship of social media is because it *isn't* fully under their control and they are very aware of how quickly local protests can spread from province to province
China routinely has protests where the government reverses itself, being an authoritarian state does not mean that the public is completely powerless
Tbh it’s interesting that people think that since China is authoritarian, its government can do whatever it wants no matter how unpopular. Like you see people saying they’ll be able to cut pensions because they’re authoritarian, but let’s remember how Covid Zero went for them lol

One of the main vectors of modern anti-vax is a Google cofounder’s ex wife using the fortune she got divorce to promote people like RFK Jr.
billionaires should not be allowed to exist because the downside of "one of them loses their mind" is simply too dangerous for a functional society

also, having a billion dollars tends to make you lose your mind
The whole point of democracy is so one person's derangement does not become everybody's problem. It's social hygiene. The fact the richest men in the West are a mix of grotty twelve year olds and deranged apocalypse fanatics is a problem, and we should be honest about it.
