I posted this in the old place, and maybe it'll do some good for the #EduSky crowd. This is a collection of right around 300 #MentorTexts that I've curated in recent years. While they certainly betray my idiosyncrasies, I think there's a lot here that will speak to teens. padlet.com/himsjaso1809...
I've done something similar in the past using big rolls of brown craft paper and have students write the texts on the wall themselves. It creates a really satisfying graffiti effect. I found that students were respectful of the space, too, so I didn't have to deal with unwelcome contributions.

Incredible investment in starting book clubs in our department. Over 100 copies of culturally diverse texts, including several 2SLGBTQ+ titles I wasn't familiar with.

We know voice + choice = engagement. Time to put theory into practice!

Yes, this is a #writing prompt. #ENG3U students brought in a mix of in/organic materials and will brainstorm tactile, haptic connections between the item and our play. Can't wait to see how they rise to the challenge.

I walked by last week and thought of the episode. The location remains a Spirit Halloween. Shocking, somehow, that a spot you'd think might be coveted real estate remains unused for most of the year.
(And, I'm really looking forward to The Debaters show in Oshawa on the 16th.)
My best quarterbacking happens on Monday mornings.
Alas, Vladdy would never have hit in that situation. The Dodgers would have walked him to load the bases and instead pitched to IKF.

Tuesdays are a battlefield.

Mars was the Roman god of war.

The Germanic equivalent was Tīw or Tiu (Norse = Tyr).

This is why today is called ‘Tuesday.’

And why it’s mardi/martes/martedì in the Romance Languages.

Small, simple thing that changes the way you move through the day: placing this sticky note front-and-center on my desk first thing this morning.

Made for a really nice Friday. ☑️ ☑️ ☑️

I got to meet folks from Tokona te Raki, an organization that is tackling academic streaming to promote educational equity for Māori children in New Zealand.

I shared some insights about destreaming in Ontario and they captured them in their annual report.

The 'kin' of ‘napkin’ means "little."

‘Nap’ comes from ‘nape,' which means “tablecloth.”

So a napkin is a little tablecloth.

10/10, no notes.

The discussion in the post here was Interesting, particularly the points around a conflict of interest.

I'm struck, though, that there would seem to be value in children developing a fuller understanding of the world around them, particularly the things we tend to take for granted.
I'd love to hear your thoughts about it when you finish.
I like the idea a lot. Ontario English curricula are quite indifferent to the content you explore with students - go for it!
