Just finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and asdjkfhlzk! I’ll try not to spoil much but it hit all of the good notes about what has me so fascinated by alien contact stories. Definitely a different tone from the Three-Body series, which I also read recently.

Every once in a while I like to redesign my alien OC, Amber, one of my many neglected OCs that I don’t draw enough of
Two headshots of a bug-like alien named Amber. One is in profile and the other at 3 thee quarter angle. Amber has large mandibles that drape the side of her face. She has black eyes with bright glowing pupils. The back of her head is lined in plates that taper into more angular scutes as the travel down her back. The front of her head has a pattern consisting of round blobby shapes. She has antennae with combs of hairs and the ends.
