Yeah, it still feels very much like the same place, just with some love and attention. And all the people who work there seem a lot happier too after the updates, which is great. The couches in the new rooms are so nice and really geared toward room parties (read: hanging out and watching Star Trek)

My friends and I have been going to a convention for like 15 years that's always held at the Rio ("a shithole, but OUR shithole!") and when they announced that the place was getting renovated there was a LOT of conversation in the group chat about the carpet, including jokes about buying swatches
