🧵that tells you a bit about how I think (👋 new followers). I used to review healthcare experiences gone wrong for a living. Research and critical thought inform my decisions but with the ever present reality I can be (and will be) wrong at times.
I’ve been wondering for a while now, as symptoms originate from the immune system mounting a response to the pathogen and everyone’s immune systems are now shot due to constant reinfections, would there be any rise in asymptomatic cases over these years? Don’t know the answer but seems possible?

In the first year or so of C19 we knew it fused brain cells together… and caused a strong inflammatory response.

That’s like crossing wires in your house and, separately, setting fire to it…

our governments transferred the public wealth that built and maintained our social infrastructure (schools, housing, income support, healthcare) to police and prisons and private industry.

the police have defunded us. poverty is the crime

If crime is way down, why are Canadians so afraid of crime? And what are politicians funnelling money into? My latest -- they are boosting policing to police us ... not keep us safe (unless you're rich, which trust me, you are not.)

1/ Last week, LA County confirmed 3 cases of Clade 1b mpox, which historically, is a severe strain from Africa. This is the first time this strain has spread locally in the U.S. without a link to Africa. I’m Matt, your Local Epidemiologist in California, back with your weekly #publichealth update.

Okay I’m putting this out yet again to catch the evening crowd. I don’t know Jesse Hirsh and have never come across any of his work until today. I am the Mistress of Rabbit Holes and systems thinking and truly this is a kind of insight and original thought that I have not seen so far.
What is unfolding across North America is a hybrid civil war, distributed across jurisdictions, layered through institutions, fought not just for territory but for control of meaning and legitimacy. The appearance of order is the weapon. Chaos is the policy.

Canada Post plans to close the 418 Main St post office on Nov 12 — a vital hub for seniors, low-income residents, and Chinese-speaking community members. I’m calling on Minister Lightbound to halt the closure and consult the community before it’s too late.

Read this. No really read this if you’re Canadian (Americans in the trenches won’t be disappointed either). 👇👇👇

Since Musk is attacking Wikipedia once again:

I love Wikipedia. A little unreliable, very occasionally hilariously inaccurate, but such a rare thing: something on the Internet that's mostly positive, inspiring & mindbogglingly useful. I've donated & will keep doing so.

An appreciation 🧵 .

Following Jemima's example, I asked it too, and...

This is impressively definitive! Either you believe Grok and Wikipedia is more reliable - or you don’t believe Grok, which is the editor of Grokipedia, and have to conclude in a whole other way that Wikipedia is more reliable!

Ludicrous.

I'm asked all the time about the cost of universal basic income and often reply that the lack of UBI isn't free and that poverty actually costs us trillions of dollars a year that we pay for in all kinds of ways instead of UBI. Well, here's a study showing the lack of UBI also costs 9 years of life.
How Income Matters for Longevity
According to research, older adults in the lowest 20% of income die 9 years earlier than their wealthier peers. And 80% of households with older adults—or 47 million—are financially struggling or are ...

Sweet summer child. The ongoing Covid pandemic has only just begun to shorten life expectancies “even in advanced countries.”
This is the 2003 outbreak SARS Commission skewering and vilifying the failure of public health leadership (and outright naming some of them including) to apply the precautionary principle.
Ontario has stopped hosting the report of the SARS Commission. It looks like it is still available via archive-it, but this is a reminder of how vulnerable digital records that embarrass powerful people can be.
