hi #PortfolioDay

im Josh and I'm a board artist in LA. I worked at Nick and Titmouse, I've boarded on Lackadaisy and in games, and I did some BG design on Bee and Puppycat, and more.

I am looking for my next board/revisions gig.

i cannot believe the friends i watched this with, none of whom had any clue what they were getting into, didn’t flay the skin from my bones afterwards
letterboxd review of angel’s egg - still, truly, the greatest lupin iii film ever made

i don’t want people to watch my videos and feel that they have to walk away in 100% agreement with my takes. i’ve heard defenses for everything i’ve critiqued and i appreciate them all. what IS non-negotiable is imposing my beloved Cringing James Urbaniak reaction on the world like a cognitohazard

i am absurdly taken with shearsmith in his tailored withnail ensemble but i have to let objectivity win out
infinitesnow.bsky.social
in a taskmaster series full of incredible contestant fits i think phil ellis has kind of cinched it for me. like combined with his loony personality it's the textbook definition of aura
infinitesnow.bsky.social
of all things to Get It i think it's the dtv sequel they did where cruella gets super into abstract art because she has an addictive personality and as with most of the idle rich thinks she's deeper than she actually is
infinitesnow.bsky.social
am i crazy for saying cruella got less interesting when they switched her whole deal from batty socialite to fashion designer. i feel like trying to frame her as some sort of artist gone mad kills the fun of the idea that this woman has never cared about anything as much as this dead puppy coat

tonight was “aliens”, a film i’ve never seen but had a great time with. this is good because tomorrow night is the movie i got to pick without needing to take a vote and everyone is going to fucking HAAAAAATE me
letterboxd review for aliens - i don’t use the term “crowdpleaser” in a derogatory way. like maybe i am more alien than aliens at the end of the day but i think a film that is both well made and has you hollering in your seat like a 50 year old divorced man - who only has one thing in his life, and it’s sunday football - is genuine magic no matter how you slice it
infinitesnow.bsky.social
i think i’ve used it in both the gvr video and man bad horror and you bet your fucking ass i stuck it right into miyazaki’s lupin. it’s never failed me once

This is how I imagine JK Rowling when she posts.
JK Rowling says "ha ha.. h-heh. I won! I won!" She sits alone in the dark, bathed in the late of her computer screen. We pull back to see her in a large dark empty room. She continues "I won." Seeing the full scope of her cavernous workplace, she appears small and alone. She says, once again, "I won..."

maybe he’s hoping something will come bail him out a la the peace prize but that he knows spiritually he’s fucked and is only half playing it off as a joke chills me to the bone. all these people propping him up as a quasi-religious figure, all these lives destroyed for a guy who believes none of it
infinitesnow.bsky.social
he doesn’t even take any joy in it! for a guy who has gotten away with literally everything you’d figure he’d at least have a devil may care attitude about the whole thing bc he has never had to face a single consequence once in his life but he is pondering this HARD

i remember an interview last year with danny devito and arnold schwarzenegger where arnie’s railing against the idea of dying because he’s so happy with his life, and while i think his altogether luxurious QOL is a factor it feels WAY different than trump’s preoccupation with heaven.
infinitesnow.bsky.social
you’d think having surrounded himself with insane evangelicals making ai videos of him hugging jesus might have assuaged those fears but he well and truly puts no stock in it. not that you can shake these people but if i heard him say this i’d be SERIOUSLY second guessing his role in my ideology
infinitesnow.bsky.social
i wish i could find something as simple as either twisted pity or petty joy in trump’s grappling with his impending mortality but altogether his opining on heaven is just…chillingly fascinating to me

NIGHT 3 was the aptly named “massacre night”
letterboxd review for “the texas chainsaw massacre”, 4 stars - evergreen observations on the naiveté of american entitlement and privilege were never this fantastically gross letterboxd review for “the slumber party massacre”, 3 stars - it’s pretty bony all things considered but in some ways i respect its directness

willa really does feel like she’s been ripped out of a hugo novel into the framework of 21st century america: that her family is framed as revolutionary nobility, that she’s the fulcrum of everyone else’s ideology/emotions, even that she spends the whole movie in a dressy blue skirt
4 1/2 star letterboxd review from me reading: I see where everyone’s getting neo-western and agree on some level but more than that what leaps out to me are the archetypes of classic 19th century literature like Les Mis or Sweeney Todd: a man on the run from a predator within the law, and his daughter, the light of a future that could be. How the revolution may be fallible, but the ideals of charity and protecting community can survive. Instead of the bohemians and the bourgeois, we have immigrant communities and the Christmas Adventurers Club. Even Lockjaw’s hilariously absurd explanation about his past (and seriously, Tony Goldwyn’s face throughout) reads like something born of the dated gender politics of Hugo or Dickens. (1/2) (2/2) Eddington, to me, is much more the neo-western, and even so a very dark inversion compared to a film like Nope: a quest to maintain the “purity” of stolen land which inevitably devolves into bloodshed and territorial violence. Neither Joe Cross or Bob Ferguson are the heroes of their respective stories - but Bob strikes much more a Valjean figure than hapless Joe trying to be America’s Sheriff. Bob isn’t the last bastion standing of the revolution, saving his daughter because the women and children must be protected: she has a chance to do what they couldn’t if she chooses to.

She doesn’t need a bigger, stronger hero - she just needs her dad.

it's not a BAD song but you can kind of tell it's built for someone who can play to the cheap seats. out of any disney villain song it's the one which in any other hands would fall the limpest
infinitesnow.bsky.social
the hypocracy of not just coming out and saying "if this tangled remake goes through donna murphy gets to reprise her role as gothel" is obvious but the other maybe less great truth is that murphy singlehandedly elevates "mother knows best" from a C to B-tier villain song

and if england had done THAT to khashoggi within 10 years of you playing there they would have yelled at you then too bill, let's dispense with the notion that you're too stupid to think this through
