NHANES gave the first clear evidence that too many Americans had too much lead in their blood leading to unleaded gasoline requirements, and its data are part of children's growth charts ubiquitous in pediatricians' offices.

They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

"The Media School directed us to print no news in the paper... nothing but information about homecoming — no other news at all, and particularly no traditional front page news coverage."

Indiana University fires IDS
adviser amid push to control
student newspaper's content The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.

The Red Cross drove the bodies of deceased hostages away from Gaza City to return them to Israel as part of the deal that saw the release of 20 live hostages held by Hamas militants and the freeing of more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners on October 13.

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.

Ok? Why does anyone care? Cities lose money on the Olympics on a regular basis. If half the countries don’t boycott due to the current political situation, I’ll be shocked.

Gross. And the reason we need affirmative action in the workplace. Because while this attitude of mostly men “of a certain age,” there are younger generations who still think this is ok.

I’m so tired of things like disease surveillance being a “democrat” program. I’d like to live in a relatively healthy society please. That shouldn’t be a radical idea.

It’s the HR version of saying something bigoted and then claiming “it was just a joke.” It’s totally a litmus test of what they can get away with.

My favorite aspect of the Columbus legend is him getting rejected by the Portuguese gets spun as them not recognizing the genius of his idea. No - he went into a roomful of expert navigators and made basic math mistakes, they thought he was a moron, and they wouldn't fund his idea on that basis.

Photos coming out of Western AK are devastating.

Hardest hit are indigenous villages off road system, many miles by air from supplies. Most built on river deltas w/ no high ground to which to escape.

Cuts to NASA/NOAA mean worse weather data. Cuts to EPA mean no grants for erosion control. Etc.

These are mostly indigenous communities in Alaska that have been slammed by the storm.

The local manager of a small airline fleet says he is the only one doing evacuations right now!

Defund FEMA and people are abandoned. Defund public media and no-one knows.

FYI, today is Indigenous Peoples Day.

There are no press releases during the shutdown, making it difficult to find this kind of news.
But the AK Air/Army National Guards, and the USCG, are conducting SAR operations. The flooding is in remote areas, and affecting primarily small villages, it appears.

I said recently that I would’ve never covered measles as an emerging infectious disease until this year. This is why. Measles is no joke—the long term impacts are huge. Next week we cover HIV, for which I assume another timely headline will emerge re: our withdrawal from global prevention efforts.

"Most Americans probably don’t have a detailed grasp of what’s happening with ACA subsidies right now, but once people start getting letters notifying them of how much their premiums are going up, it will become a much bigger issue."
Republicans are completely full of it on healthcare
And it becomes more obvious every time they talk about it.

This country was built on the attempted genocide of Native Indigenous Indians by predominately white men.
.
A sign that reads, "Colonial History Lied. When Europe showed up in North America, Indigenous people were not nomads, not few, not savage, not impoverished, not recent immigrants, and were not looking for salvation. Yes, Indigenous people had commerce, travel, economics, permanency, stewardship, inheritances, artistry, drama, ceremony, mourning, health care, politics, justice, penance, peacekeeping, and STILL DO."
