I bought it from Thompson and Morgan as a bare root tree - Vranja variety Quince A rootstock. Now is exactly the time to order one 🙂 they are only available in the winter. www.thompson-morgan.com/p/quince-vra...

Our Land, a new documentary, interrogates the connections between land, power and a sense of belonging following the Right to Roam movement in England and Wales. It captures the tension between public campaigners fighting for greater access to nature and landowners.

I've been getting back into the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series after many years, and the most relatable part is how everyday objects like doors and elevators have been imbued with artificial intelligence and it just makes them obnoxious and frustrating to use and everyone hates it.

I've given my new Senator a lot of shit on here. But I don't think anyone with power has laid out the stakes of what we're facing as clearly as she does right here.

And if she's saying this, it's because she feels she must.

The problem is that it's very hard to make money from a hype bubble bursting (short selling is limited in scope), so the incentives are all in the direction of keeping it going.

(It's a good article whether you agree with the central premise or not).
"The people who are paying attention to this cycle are getting anxious. On a scale from one to 10, the AI-bubble concern is: people posting memes of Christian Bale’s character from The Big Short, squinting in disbelief at his computer monitor."
I mostly avoid The Atlantic's stories but there are three writers there that I always trust & read, and Charlie Warzel is one of them. This is a great piece.

China added as much solar PV capacity (256 GW) in just the first half of this year as the US installed in all of its solar history.
China's speed of adding new capacity was already 14 times higher than that in the US, and China is speeding up while the US is slowing down.

Is gas still the reason GB energy prices are high? New Nesta blog by me.

There's been a lot of talk about non-commodity costs on electricity bills, and how they're now dominating bill rises.

My conclusion is: yes, they're a problem and need tackling; but they're not yet as big a problem as gas.
Is gas still the reason energy bills are so high?
Despite rising non-commodity costs on energy bills, high gas prices remain the primary reason for expensive energy for most British households, making the switch to homegrown energy a top priority

I hope everyone is enjoying the 200 years of the railways coverage going around!

It's nice to contribute to it myself... Here's a new piece from me about railway electrification and various ideas for how to speed it up!

What do future railways look like? 🧐🚈

I was really ill with flu over Christmas last year, so I’m not taking any chances this year! With my history of medicine hat on, it’s just amazing to get a flu vaccine a little over 100 meters and 200 years from where Edward Jenner was providing vaccination against smallpox.
