One widely circulated number claims that the “average worker saves about 2.5 hours per day on repetitive tasks” with AI. That number came from an industry survey of a thousand marketing professionals, where it’s easy to connect time savings to the surge in LLM-generated “thought leadership” we see flooding LinkedIn, or the rise of AI-generated stock footage. In other words: slop. Productivity in marketing is measured in post count and clicks, rather than cultivating community or generating sales, and so it is arguable whether these 2.5 hours are truly productive if they simply lead to increased saturation and alienation of the customer base while degrading our information environment.

We're experiencing an unbelievable deluge of submissions. At our journal we got ~200 per year in 2020. Last year it was 600. This year it's 800 with several months to go. So that's why we're slower to get stuff out for review.

Even more annoying is that the original poster is using the LLM to “wade through a mountain of papers for a systemic review”. Which means feeding a lot of academic material into the plagiarism machine that always lies, without the consent of the authors.

Seeing people nonchalantly post stuff like makes me feel like I'm going crazy honestly.
A post from an academic on blue sky that says: "I'm learning about "prompt engineering" when asking LLMs to extract data. I now add this to all instructions: Style Be concise, analytic, and specific (cite page/figure if provided). If essential info is missing, keep going but flag Unclear and exact data needed. Never invent data. #academicsky"

As I have mentioned before, the reason why so much of SV/VC went far right was because the end of ZIRP meant the end of their business model that made billion dollar IPOs out of burning money. The closest thing you can find for rent extraction at this scale is DoD contracts.
