I know a lot of people choosing isolation from public life for this reason. I hate it, it’s horrid, but I understand it.

It wouldn’t be better, of course, if ICE were a well-organized, goose-stepping machine, but I’m struck by how chaotic their actions are. Screaming and gas. Random, nightmarish violence without rhyme or reason.

It’s pure terrorism.

they give it to you, or used to, in a small cardboard box, and you slide it open, and there is your beef and beer pie, or your curry pie, or whatever. The crust is all flaky and perfect.

Then they also give you fries.

a few months ago i got triggered and was being really mean to my husband and i went to pee and started crying and yelled at him from the bathroom:

"I don't know why i am talking like this, i can't stop"

and that? broke the spell.

its easy (or used to be for me) to fall into the "oh its ok, this is a fight, I know how fighting works, I had to know" and i just launch the nuclear sarcasm and the snide remarks and the cutting attacks

i haven't done that in a long time now

instead i go oh, i flipped, i need to stop this

which might mean an hour alone in a room where you can feel safe on your own

or a person who can help you feel safe again

or any of a million soothing methods

but its good to stop when you hit the flipped point, just stop and go be safe for a bit

when your lid is flipped and the frontal cortex stops talking to the amygdala you lose all access to logic and reason and sense

its all fight, so you lash out, or flee and you hide

you need time in safety to bring them back together and let them talk again
